Grateful Dead are actually a Good band
it's hard to get into them in some ways. your idiot stoner friends constantly pushing them on you. the meandering ass jams. it took me until my 30s to be able to enjoy them. i don't associate with the culture, i've never seen any member of the band live or any dead cover band live...but when i listen to their chit...live or in the studio, i recognize and respect what and who they are/were. they legit have a bunch of good songs and they are all solid players.
phish on the other hand are chit. they are amazing musicians. better than the dead as musicians srs but their songs are so hokey and stupid. it's not cute.
the dead have some timeless classics that can translate to any era.

Of course they're a good band. They're the band that got me to see a world outside only heavy metal as a teenager.
In The Dark was the record in particular that sold me. I had it on cassette tape as a teenager and I'd bring it on all my camping trips and play it in the woods. Got it at a thrift shop for 25c.
Specifically, I heard Touch of Grey first and that really opened my mind.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

You can always throw away your gf/wife but never cassette tapes of good old music.
Even though we can always download them online we always know it's not the same and will never be.

this is my favorite dead song.
i was actually at a govt mule show with my deadhead friends years ago and they played it and i decided i liked it. from there, i wasnt so anti dead. did a small tour of the pacNW 3 years ago and our rental had XM and it was nonstop dead for 3 days. that's when i decided that i can listen to them. still haven't done much digging but there's lots of time for that.
learned how to play this song for chits and giggles

Ripple is probably one of the best songs ever written.
Jack Straw is a great song as well.

I like them, great band from the GOAT era of music.
The Rolling Stones I just don't get though...To me Mick's vocals are garbage tier and their lyrics and sound just doesn't impress me. This is coming from someone who loves classic rock.

When I first heard them I didn't get it but after getting into guitar I realized Jerry's playing was incredible the way he effortless flowed through leads on a 10-15-20 minute jam. Bob's vocals take some getting used to but otherwise one of the goats of all time bands
