Can you even call yourself a man if you don't service your own car?

GOAT feeling working on your own vehicles and doing your own servicing.
This year alone I've changed front and rear brake pads, transmission oil change, engine oil change, spark plugs and leads, air filter etc etc.
Saved an absolute fortune in labour costs, while getting a nice sun tan while wrenching in the sun.

Fkin lol @ beta cucks who have to pay some wrench monkey for him to change your oil while probably not even changing the filter and using poverty bargain basement oil.

Easy op, I pay another man to do all that stuff. He appreciates it and I don’t have to get my hands dirty.

I worked on my bug out apocalypse truck a few days ago. I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump. Broke off the nipple piece on the flip over check valve attaches a hose to. Tried to superglue and epoxy it back on and I dont think it worked. Cant replace the check valve because it is plastic welded into the tank. And I forgot to attach one of the hoses and fuel came pouring out the top when I started it up. Had to take the tank off and on again. Also while working on it I think I found what was causing the EVAP leak. The little plastic line that attaches to the filler neck to the front of the tank had a huge canoe type hole in the top of it. So I duct taped it until I can find a replacement for that plastic hose line without having to buy a whole new filler neck set.

Other things I did within the last year were:
Oil and filter changes and air filter obviously
-Transmission filters replaced
-fuel injector screen filters replaces
-spark plugs
-EGR valve replaced
-camshaft position sensor
-crankshaft position sensor
- front and rear brakes
-ball joints replaced
-upper control arms replaced
- Installed a 102" whip and cb radio
-charcol canister purge valve

On the list is
-replace rear dif lube
- find out why the rpm drops and engine wants to stall when I come to a fast stop.
-find out what the popping sound it from front end when slowly going over bumps while turning the wheel. Might be tie rod or something


I dont trust people to work on my stuff. After dealing with enough scammers and crooked pieces of **** I decided I will never again trust anyone to touch any of my vehicles.

Light maintenance as you mention yeah most men should do and be able to.

After a while though complex chit like replacing a water pump or serpentine belt just becomes a pain in the ass and if I had money saved up or was making good money I’d just take it to a mechanic and call it a day

Well I work two jobs 70+ hours a week not a single day off. Also raise a family, I don't have time for that chit.

There is a 25% chance that the goon you pay to change your oil will fuk it up somehow. Might overfill/underfill, might strip the bolt with an impact gun, might drain your transmission fluid and then fill your oil back up ruining both your transmission and engine. I've seen all of these happen and if there is a way to fuk it up the jiffy lube places can figure it out

Last time I had someone change oil and rotate tires they fuked up the lug nuts badly. So bad that I had to hammer on a socket to them to remove and replace them and could barely get them out of the socket with the socket in a vice and hammering a punch into the lug nut to get them out. Fukin pissed me off

I managed a Jiffy Lube many years ago and all of this **** happened under my watch even though I had made a huge improvement to process. The worst was a young guy who brought his brand new Nissan Sentra in for it's very first oil change. The guy in the pit stripped the drain plug and it ended up falling out a few days later and blew his engine which we ended up replacing after the kid having to take us to arbitration.

So even though I make plenty of money now to pay someone else, I still change the oil on both our cars.

I don't disparage anyone who does not, but I do feel that every man SHOULD at least be able to:

1. Install a spare wheel/tire in case of a flat
2. Change their oil
3. Check all fluids
4. Bonus: Replace brake pads. Such an easy job and this one you really can save money unless you're making CEO levels.

I'll do simple repairs (tires/oil change) but more extensive repairs are far more riskier with newer cars. there's so much more to it than unbolting a part and putting a new one it. Everything is linked electronically now days. so you may successfully replace the part, but you can still phuck up the electronics which will prevent the car from passing emissions or driving properly. Thats why I just bite the bullet and take the car into the shop....Not the "stealership" mind you, usually a 3rd party shop. They tend to charge less.

Besides I have a track whore i wrench on plenty, no need to waste time on small crap on the daily.

If you want something done right do it yourself. There’s a lubie at my shop that put 5w-30 in a vehicle that required 0w-20. They strip skid plate bolts regularly as well. Can’t imagine the **** they do that they don’t get caught for.

I try to do basic maint myself if possible. I just changed the oil 2 weeks ago. A 30 minute job turned into hours as the last person who put on the filter thought it was a good idea to torque it on. I ripped the damn thing in half trying to get it off using the screwdriver trick.

When I did the first change on my truck they had it done at a lube shop prior to me getting it. Same chit. Oil filter was on so tight I had to completely rip it apart and the take the threads off with pliers. They also stripped the drain bolt by cross threading it. My wife's had a lube place give the drain bolt about 20 ugga duggas and rounded it off completely and I didn't notice until I went to change it the first time. It takes me less than 20 min to do both of our vehicles since neither needs to be jacked up and I know when I do it it gets done correctly. If I had to jack it up I might consider finding a reputable 3rd party to do it for me.

Always pisses me off. The fukn filter can itself says 3/4 of a turn after contact and people wrench that ****er until it’s about to split.
