hunting rats

I have rats tearing up my screened in porch and chewing up cushions and chit and trying to nest behind my freezer. Cleaned all that chit up. These rats are huge, they can pull themselves off of glue pads and leave big patches of fur on them, so there was a lot of contact area and they were stuck good, they are just big and strong. They avoid snap traps even when baited and left alone for weeks. Want to avoid poison because of my dog. The holes they chewed in plywood are 2 and 1/2 inches in diameter, so they are probably that big. Thinking about just shooting them with a pellet gun, but that requires a lot of time just waiting. Any other ideas?

find the rat holes and put dry ice in them and seal it the gas released from the ice smothers them

They make containers you can put poison into with a hole on each end to get in and out and your dog won't be able to get it.

Use have-a-heart traps and when you catch them, shoot them. That's how I had to deal with squirrels biting holes through my shed. Caught two, killed both. Problem ended.

My old golden retriever loved annihilating possum families. My old german pincher was 1/4 the size but just as fierce. People recommend cats, but sounds like these rats would destroy a cat lol. Get a good dog breh.

Get a box trap for squirrel sized vermin. You open the door on one end and set the trigger. Put bait on the other end. The animal has to step on a plate to get the bait. That releases the trigger and closes the door. $25 at a hardware store. You can release the rat in someone elses house.

- Capture rats in traps
- Separate the strong from the weak
- Starve the small ones over multiple days
- Starve the bigger ones over only a couple days
- Put the big one with a couple small ones in an enclosed cage with a small bit of food
- Wait for the bigger one to eat the smaller ones
- Feed the bigger ones "celltech" in their water
- Repeat this process while gradually reducing the extra food until the chad rat is only eating rats
- Then increase the food amount slowly
- If rat prefers to eat the food, terminate it
- Release chad rat if it prefers fulfilling itself on rats over the food
- Repeat this process on the other stronger rats to create an army of cannibal rat predators

I use the old victor wooden ones. Some of them I weld nails on the kill bar.



Use peanut butter and put in on a piece of flannel or cotton cloth. Fold it a few times with some peanut butter hidden inside, and hook it in the latch really well.
If it's set like they show there the *******s just lick the peanut butter off and never set off the trap.
With the rag, they want to get the last of the peanut butter out and start tugging on it and set it off.

Use a big bucket so they aren't able to hang onto the edges. Use water if you just want to drown the rats.

I am sitting in a kid's playhouse diking around online and watching a baby monitor pointing at the entry point the rats are getting in. I am using a Seneca Dragonfly pump air rifle in .177 with a 9 shot mag. I have an ebay silencer and a x3-9 power bug buster scope. I blew one rat head off and am waiting for more.

just put the peanut butter below the metal flap. worked for me in the winter

the trigger has to be set good too

There are way more than you think. It is an infestation.

You could pop pellets at them all day, full body bags until your heart is content and you won’t even notice a difference.

It is too late for any reasonable response.

You need professional help at this point.


The poison might help, but I agree don’t use it because the dogs will get into it.
