Dear diary. I was thinking about something that happened to a friend of mine years ago. He was arrested for kidnapping, domestic violence, assault, and other serious charges because he got involved with a complete psycho girlfriend. Basically she had one of her borderline personality disorder tantrums and was tearing apart his house, breaking ****, throwing **** at him, etc so he took her and locked her in the room until she calmed down. Well she called the cops and he got arrested but they ended up dropping all the charges against him. The local police posted his mugshot and the list of charges and had thousands of comments from people saying stuff about him. I dont think the police should be posting mugshots on social media.

I dont think the police should be posting the mugshots of people because it is not their duty to determine what is news worthy or not. It is up to media and journalists to post the mugshots. Also saying things like "scum off the streets" before the guy had a trial and allowing a mob of people to write terrible things before having a trial is a form of punishment similar to parading arrested people down main street in front of crowds of people yelling stuff. Its embarrassment and shame as punishment when not even found guilty yet. We have the right to a trial before punishment here. Also when government orgs like county police have a social media account that allows comments, they shouldnt be banning people from the comments. They should allow all comments or no comments. If you select only nice things about the gov org as being allowed speech and banning other speech you are infringing on 1st amendment rights in my opinion. By having a social media account with open comments you are basically creating a public forum. Anyway my friend doesn't have ******** and now when I search my friend's name on ******** the only thing that comes up is this mugshot and all those comments under it. I imagine it would be hard for him to get hired somewhere if they check for him on social media and see that. So he is in some ways being punished for something years later for crimes he never was found guilty by a court of. They dropped the charges. In reality he is guilty but imagine if you were someone that didnt do a crime like a rape charge or something and this happened to you? Wouldn't the rest of your life be fuked financially?

I think it depends on your state's laws. I know plenty of people who have been arrested and never had their mugshots posted.

Yeah in FL mugshots are public records and you can look anyone up in the online arrest database and you can find their mugshot. My point is that the police shouldnt be posting mugshots on their social media and deciding what is newsworthy or not. Its up to journalists and media people to decide that. I know the police like to show off their good works by taking criminals off the street but I see it can cause problems too.
