When a dog charges you, does it jump or go in a straight line?

Hey

So if you are getting charged by an aggressive dog intent on biting you or whatever, does it just dart straight for you in a straight line and go for your legs or does it jump up at the end on average? I guess police dogs usually seem to jump. So if you were being charged and held a stick infront of you would it be easy to make contact with the dog or would it maneuver or jump? Or would it be best to hold the stick back and then thrust forward to not give the dog any chance to avoid it?

Yeah I hear people saying "offer it your arm" etc, but if you held a stick infront of you would it go for the stick and impale itself lol?

it would probably bite the stick, it'll just bite whatever it gets to first.

So theoretically it would be very easy to defend yourself with a pointy object and a thrust? Not moving forward just in a defensive stance or even retreating

Animals go over, under or around boundaries. If it can't do that it usually stays put. If a dog really wants you then you have to fight. Period.

Ok thanks, so if it's full on charging with intent to fight you, and you hold a spear, for example, back, then thrust forward, there's no way he'd have the agility to avoid that right? Since it's not really a boundary it can see since it's recoiled until you thrust it forward.

When I was young we lived out in the country. Had 2 German shephards. I remember seeing a trespasser in the yard about the same time the dogs did. They ran down and confronted him. One dog stayed in front of him and barked. The other bit him on his buttocks. He turned around, then the other dog big him on his buttocks. Then he ran like hell to get out of our yard. We had no trespassing and beware of dog signs. We had no more trespassers after that.

You better be offensive from the gate. He attacks you, then you thrust that spear with full intent of connecting. You miss, you wont have the agility to regroup. Poke him or even grazing him will make him rethink attacking.

it honestly depends how it assesses you and your vulnerabilities. most dogs are naturally expert at taking down large prey and they can see an opening very clearly. if you seem to be presenting a defense they will maneuver until they can lunge forward. holding out a stick isnt going to work.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, only thing I'm wondering is a dog's average agility level if he can swerve to avoid it in time, but I really doubt it since a thrust would take a fraction of a second
