In the bible and sun belt it is for sure. It's second only to Jesus. Some of the HS down south have college level facilities. Up north it's still very popular, but Basketball seems to have more popularity.

Probably not anymore since social media and gaming took off.
When I was in HS a long time ago, you played sports for the schools team or for fun.
No one said they played video games back then, now playing CoD or Fortnite is so common place no one cares.

Depends. Down south football has the most prestige but the teams are so big you don't stand out unless you are really good. If you make the basketball team as a white dude you stand out like a sore fukn thumb so everyone instantly knows who you are. Baseball has the most groupies but no one really gives a chit about the sport. Every other sport is irrelevant to any one not on the team.

Old guy checking in..
Our school had a retreat at a wilderness camp the first three days of every school year. We walked into the cafeteria from football practice to eat lunch. The entire place erupted cheering. It was basically like being a rock star at the school I attended.
There are no high school feels like playing football under the Friday night lights. Popularity overload and pretty much any girl in the school you want.
This was 30 years ago and now the cool kids moved to LaCrosse

It depends on how good your team is and how much your town appreciates football.
Played five years on the varsity team with one year being an 8th grader in the mid to late 1980’s. Very small southern town, football was everything for that town. Literally everyone would show up.
Grown men would come up to me and say aren’t you, gtrzrus? I would say yes, they would literally sit there and talk football all day if I didn’t finally say I had something to do.
All this for a teenager who was still wanking off to a Sears catalog every night!
I wasn’t even that great. I weighed 140 lbs soaking wet and played middle linebacker and halfback. We played division 2A which is the second smallest in Georgia. We were consistently around .500 every year. We did make the regional playoff two of my years, but were trounced.
So yes, it was GOAT, but I was to dumb and stupid to realize it at the time.
With all of that said, I find it sad than many high school football players say it was the best time of their lives. It was fun for sure, but the period is not my high point.

I played QB for most of my career, had a bunch of wins, but doesn't compare to this. I switched positions Junior year so a transfer could play QB, and just told him to throw me the ball every play, which he did and I became the starter.
Senior year rolls around, I lead the team in receiving yards, touchdowns, and receptions. During Homecoming against our rivals, it was down to the wire with them up 4 points. They needed a first down to win the game, and I'm playing DE at this point. I truck through my lineman with the force of a thousand virgins, the QB goes to throw the ball, and I like punch it out of his hand, recover it, and return it back to their 20 yard line. There's like less than a minute left and next thing you know it's 4th and 4 with 11 seconds remaining. The last play was this ridiculous crossing route chit with he receivers the QB booting left, and I'm just blocking. I block my guy, then he runs to the left, so I go to follow him, and I turn around and our QB is being chased by 3 guys, and runs back to the right and I'm just chilling there, so I put my hands up and he throws me the ball, I turn around and there's a linebacker right there ready to hit me. I stiff arm him into the ground and keep running. I truck through cornerback and then dive into the endzone getting my body wrekked by what felt like the entire defense. I scored the game winning touchdown, teammates and fans storm the field, I'm carried off with the quarterback with them cheering our names. We go out later for the party and people are handing me drinks and girls are all over me. I end up hooking up with one of the hottest cheerleaders. It was like a fukking movie and something that I'll never forget, srs.

I didn't play football in HS, but when I was in school, the end of the 80s, the football players seemed to be having a great time together and were popular with the student body. Our teams were not very good, but the guys all knew how to have a good time.
On the down side, I went to school in the midwest were the fall weather can become quite cold at times. I remember wondering how the football team handled the freezing chill. It must have been miserable playing in the wind and rain near freezing temps.

I always wondered the same OP, you know how half the hollywood teen movies have some kind of HS football team bull**** in there lol i always figured it was kind of a huge deal.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

seriously one of the best feelings in life is a huge highlight play in front of a great crowd with all your family, friends family watching and yelling your name after a big hit/catch/interception and hearing your name over the speaker. nothing better

Being the alpha QB or a position that gives you status and looks (safety, receiver) then yea you can get it all. But most football players aren’t even friends with one another, and most aren’t getting mad chicks:
- RB - likely king manlet who gets friend zoned
- Offensive linemen - fat ****s that date uggos. Won’t have enemies because they are big as hell but usually aren’t in the coolest group
- kicker / punter - likely a soccer **** that the football team pretends isn’t there
- bench players and trash - at public schools if you want to play football you’ll make the team, but may not start. A lot of weird dudes and losers here
The top of the top of the football team (QB and his friends) are generally kings of school and get that life. Majority though get scraps. Also, basketball and baseball players generally do as good or better with women than most football players , with the exception being lankcel hoopers
But if you want a shot at the top chicks you almost always need to be an athlete in HS

Down in Texas and the south football is like a religion (srs). Friday night lights and the whole town shows up to cheer. Legit goat life if you are the QB or a star player. College football is on another level in terms of status if you are a star. brb every girl on campus wants to be with you brb popular brb teachers give no fuks about your work as long as you do well on the field. brb free everthing no tuitio cuz dat scholarship.

Nothing beats the feeling of banging HBB cheerleaders. Basically sole purpose is to be eye candy to everyone at the game.
Love that schools of strict dress codes for what women and men can wear. But on game day cheerleaders wear their uniform to class and get those short skirts hnnnnnnng

That said you don’t even need to be that good. Had many nights at our fraternity parties where bench scrubs form our basketball or football team show up and have sloots flock to them. Girls whore out for status more than anything else - it’s an amazing red pill to witness live
