Why do people feel the need to wear clothes that don't fit them?
With women, it's usually that they wear clothes too small/tight for their bodies. It's a bit annoying how so many women who are like 50-100+ lbs overweight insist on wearing stretchy pants that are so tight you can see every moon crater line on their anguses. Not to mention showing off the ugly cousin of camel toe by letting a nasty ol' case of moose knuckle hang out.
Some guys do the too tight of clothes thing too. Skinny jeans always look awful and uncomfortable, and guys with giant beer guts sticking out loud and proud in a shirt two sizes too small. On the flip side, you've got the wannabe tough guys who force everyone to see their anguses hanging out of their pants with the pants hanging down at their wastes. Usually worn with overly baggy shirts that look 3x too big for them.
Everyone, regardless of their weight, looks their best in clothes that actually fit them properly. Blows my mind how they are so stupid that they choose to willfully deduct 2-3 points from their general appearance just because they are in denial about their size.

Maybe because of societal norms. People wear tight clothing because the fashion industry uses tight clothes on models, the more of the body shape you can see, the sexier it is presumed to be. Since we constantly see tight fitting clothing in advertisements, we can ascertain that people are normalized to the concept of tight fitting clothes.

True, fashion can be a form of cope too. I only wear clothes that a president would wear. loose cut mid wash blue jeans, regular cut suits, black leather shoes, trousers etc.

It all depends on geography. If you don’t wear at least slightly baggy clothes where I live at your gonna get **** on 24/7 possibly beat up.
