Just upgraded to a Cat 3, not even in the gulf yet.

Current projections have the eye going right over BR. It is forecasted to be a cat 1 at that time, but we will see.

Start filling up you gas cans now guys.

Hey everyone!!!

Make sure your hurricane deductible is as low as possible. 2.5% in LA.

This was a big deal after Laura. When state regulation lowered the hurricane deductible limit to 2.5%, most people stayed with 5%. (Hurricane deductibles are a percentage, not a fixed value like comprehensive is).

IN A DAY OR TWO, THE ENTIRE STATE WILL STOP SELLING NEW POLICIES, INCREASING EXISTING ONES, AND LOWING THE DEDUCTIBLE BY LAW. GET IT FIXED NOW!!!!!

Now a Cat 4. The cooler Gulf waters should knock it down a bit but still a strong hurricane.

I’m probably gonna stock up on everything too in case it comes west a degree or two. It is still pretty early to know what it will do exactly.

I have some anxiety about it as Laura was supposed to be a CAT 1, but hit us at a 4, shortly before downgrading to a 3.

It is still super early to try to predict its strength and path.

UPDATE #1
Recently downgraded to CAT 2 over the Yucatan. NOAA is predicting it will get back up to a CAT 4 over the Gulf, but now saying it will be a CAT 3 when it hits land instead of CAT 1. The storm path has drifted west a little and is now more centered over Lafayette. That still keeps BR well within the storm, but it won’t get the worst of it within the eye walls. Lake Charles will be more impacted by it, if this path is correct. I want to say I hope it doesn’t come any farther left, because LC is still recovering from Laura. At the same time, I don’t want it to hit the major cities a little father to the East.

It will start to make landfall mid-late morning on Friday. I do anticipate insurance companies will stop adding/modifying policies sometime today.

We have done this before, but make sure you have a generator and plenty of gas. Anticipate power outage lasting multiple weeks. I keep my chainsaw ready to go. Summer broke, so we won’t need the A/C as much. I know we all make our own decisions for our own reasons. I do think sometimes it is worth saying out loud that property can be fixed/replaced, while our personal destruction is very permanent.

Is it common for people to have 1-300 gal gas tanks during hurricane season? Put some fuel stabilizer in and use it for your vehicles if not needed

Blazing hot take. Every year isn't like this one and most hurricane heavy years not every storm takes the same track. It's just part of living near the gulf.

I don’t know anyone that doesn’t that. I feel like the effort and money would be waste. Nothing wrong with being prepared I guess. I wouldn’t be surprised to run into people that do that.

Diesel has a long shelf life, so if you have a diesel truck, and a diesel generator, you are more set. Plus, after the storm, when you start filling up again, at the stations that have a separate island for diesel, you don’t have to wait as most people are in line for gas.

If you get marine grade gas (non ethanol) you're good to go for a long ass time. I've used non ethanol gas that was a year old to no ill effect. Ethanol gas is ruined within a month or two
