This was an impromptu painting. We had beautiful autumn weather here over the weekend. I live in the mountains surrounded by forest and I've always wanted to try painting outdoors. However, I use a lot of equipment and make a mess with my oils when I paint. I found a suitable compromise in creating an "under painting" using gesso and acrylics out on my porch. The day after, once the acrylic was dried, I added oils to the canvas. I wanted to create the illusion of sunlight filtering through the forest at sunset, trying to capture that golden, misty haze that accompanies this time of day.

I had a bit of trouble getting my bush highlights to stick as my brushes are getting kind of worn out and I didn't have a thicker layer of paint underneath (painted directly on dry canvas), but this was really fun.

I've made a few. Here's one I did recently. I have an idea for a really large canvas with a massive mountain range and the northern lights. This was a practice of sorts.

I really can't draw people or faces. I've only just stuck to the landscapes and seascapes. I'm currently not thinking about selling paintings as I'm just doing it for fun. I also don't have all that much spare time and have a big 'to-paint' list going. Feel free to post a photo, though. It might provide me with a few more ideas for paintings. I have a whole video game themed series I still need to get to.
