Why do liberals use this as though it is an insult?

Yes, his family last name could have been Drumpf a while ago.

It comes up often and with all the things they could pick to hound him about this is the best they have?

I think this may have started when he said that his dad was from Germany, but I'm not certain.

It seems more that Trumplicans use it in jest when someone argues a point against him that they either can't or don't care to dispute.
