Whats your opinion on doing very controlled slow High reps ?

Today was chest day and meet some Guy in the gym that i know and we agreed to do together chest. Well it was more of like me following him.

So we only did medium weight with dumbbell and machines. Very controlled High rep and low rest time.

Is this legit for muscles ? I feel like i wasted my chest day srs. Had insane pump but thats it.

Normally i do super heavy incline, flat and flies and the rest time is more like 3 to 4 min.

What do you mean by high reps? I like sticking to 10-15 reps for most exercises. I prefer slow negatives and good contractions. Sounds like your buddy and I train in a similar manner.

Sounds similar to german volume training. Gives a good pump, but it's far from the optimal way to train for either size or strength.

1-4 second ratio is optimal for hypertrophy.

We did always more than 10 reps slow as fuk too. And when doing dumbbells he advised me to do them with 90 angle.

Where i do explosive 5x5 or 3x5. Today felt like a deload with no rest time giving me good pump.

Yeah I’d say I train the way you’re asking about. I don’t do 5x5 or any low rep training really. I stick to 8-20 reps.

I like to throw them into my routine occasionally but I wouldn't solely lift like that

If you can do controlled high reps you’re not forcing your muscles to grow. They grow because you put stimulus to them, because your body will adapt or die, not because you do some pretty little workout.

Slow controlled reps (low) is a different story

The heaviest weight you can do with good form, that simple
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"

Sounds like an awesome active recovery session. Bet you'll go kill it next time.

Lmao Yes. I felt like i wasted it but its all right. Sometimes it does feel good doing light weight but boring. Nothing beats of repping 3 plates.

Yes, it could be a great plateau breaker.

Changing things every now and then is better than doing the same thing forever.
