Why did States with major cities turn blue when Clinton was president in 1992?

I was looking at previous presidential elections, majority of major cities of states like IL, CA basically all turned blue when Bill Clinton was elected but they were voting Red before then. What happened? It wasn't just Clinton either but they've all been blue basically since then. NY started an election earlier, they became blue after Reagan or in 1988.

Ross Perot ate into the republican vote hard. for whatever reason, revisionist historians don't like to bring that up. but iirc, he got at least 10% of the popular vote. that wasn't from people who were gonna vote clinton.



edit- he got almost 20(18.9%) of the popular vote. just lol.

I dunno but I do know that all major metros will eventually turn blue. Got young adults moving into these metros and they’re all voting blue. Maybe it’ll still won’t effect this election but next one might see the consequences.
