When was the last time you had a friend?

And if you actually have one now do you tell them everything?

If not what's the point of having a friend if not for free therapy?

Great question. My most recent good friend kept moving and now lives almost an hour away. Haven’t seen him in 6 months.

I honestly have no tight homies close by. Lots of buddies just a phone call away but most live in other states at this point.

I only hang out with my gfs family. Kinda cool but I don’t consider them friends. They are family to me. I need some cool homies to do other crap with lol.

Only actual 'friend' I've had in years I saw last May. Was going to see them at their wedding, but that has been postponed.

Not really mixed with anyone but family since March.

I genuinely thought friendship to be the epitome of living life, the most beautiful prospect of all, only to realize it was mostly a farce and an illusionary tale tbh. I am not even going into the usual statements that nobody can be trusted etc, i genuinely don’t even care about that. It was mostly the realization that no matter what you do or say, how deep you go emotionally, you never truly say, share or tell your deepest hidden parts. There is always that deep part of you hidden inside you that nobody gets to know. In the end with a journal you tend to be far more honest with yourself, and the catharthic emotional release only works in the beginning with talking, and before you know it you are repeating yourself. At a certain point you realize it is just talking anyway, and no ‘’doing’’ so you are not getting ahead either way. Most advice people give is useless anyway.
Like what is the maximum one can get out of a friendship? which is already a corrupt question to ask, as one should not be getting anything out of friendship, but one can feel perfectly at ease all by theirselves.

Idk anymore tbh. Its what i ve been asking myself the last years. To build friendships, or not to.

It takes so much time, and money and effort, for what in the end?

Btw i’m not being purposefully negative, it’s just that Am genuinely debating the worth of friendships. And i had great deep, profound, utopian almost, friendships. I’m not sure it changed anything for me. At the beginners stages yes, but once you evolve more philosophically and spiritually you tend to look around and see nobody understands in a way, or they are not on your same wavelength.

My dog is my best friend these days lol. Honestly at my age it is pretty rare to get too close to anyone you aren't dating. Old high school friends weren't a part of my life a long time ago, college buddies all went their separate ways, moved somewhere far away got married or into their own family life or something. I had a buddy I was hanging out with a lot last year but covid really phucked up our ability to go out and do chit and it's been a long time since we last did anything. Honestly I am just sorta over trying to be friends with people these days, I enjoy being friendly but it's hard to really connect often.

I just talk candidly to acquaintances and strangers, no small talk, makes life interesting and they often reciprocate.

Next time someone asks "how are you?", don't just automatically reply "good" if you're not actually good, see how people react.

Your definition of friends is the whole reason why you are still alone in this world.

I have tons of friends. However, they are scattered all over the country. So, it's been awhile since we have connected. It all comes down to being comfortable with yourself, I guess.

Yup as you get older and people get settled into their families you better get comfortable with yourself. Only losers still hang out with their buddies all the time past a certain age.

I'm still in touch with high school friends but it's only once in a couple of months. Honestly, as a working adult with a family, I don't have anyone I can call a "friend". Colleagues and acquaintances abound but no friend sadly.

I've got more than a few but they all live in Florida and Georgia, whereas I live in Colorado for the past couple years. Now that I've got a wife, kid, professional level job and all the fun that goes with it I do not have time to make friends save the dads of my kids friends. I don't think they really count though.

I do enjoy meeting up with them when I'm visiting home though. We kind of have a Hank Hill mindset when it comes to talking about emotions and women problems and ****, we just like to pound beers and have fun like we did years ago. I think treating friendship like therapy would get old quick, although rarely I've had some good one on one talks at the bar when a bro has real problems.

Over a few weeks, we talked about it frequently and I gave him a lot of advice. He hadn't know anything about it beforehand, so I saved him from making some rookie mistakes.

Then, abruptly, he stopped returning my emails and phone calls. I'm pretty sure he'd decided that I was socially undesirable and that he wanted to cut me out of his life, but figured, hey, why not pump me for information first. We were drifting apart before that, so I don't really miss him, but the way he did it... what a slight.

I talk to my parents all the time, and there are people in my industry whom I socialize with, but I wouldn't really call them friends.

Sounds about right, had a buddy from college where things went that way. His thing was some Hollywood reality show production bullchit and when he got into that and hanging out with some of his "friends" from there he was acting like he was too good for me. Dude pretty much fell off the face of the planet and started some company without saying anything to me. Last I checked though his company went bust and now he is working as a secretary for some dude. Sad, but can't say I feel sorry for him, he was being a total douche last time we hung out and I am pretty sure all his old industry contacts dropped him like a bad habit when he left his reality show position. Hollywood is a brutal place where everyone acts interested so long as they can get something from you.

I have a handful of close friends but for the most part I don't phuck with people. It bothered me in my youth that I was kind of a natural loner and never really fit in with any particular "group," but after about 24-25, I realized that focusing on yourself and your own goals is rewarding too.

No hate on social butterflies, I admire people who have strong and wide social circles without being drama queen *******s, but it just ain't me.

Generally only have close friends when I'm using drugs/alcohol. When I'm in sober phases of life such as now I don't really have the drive or interest to maintain friendships. Wish I did but it just feels so awkward and forced.

I probably have about 4 close friends that I could pick up the phone, and they would answer or at least call back if they didn't pick up.

I've known all of them since high school I'm 32 now so we brahs for life. We can talk about anything death of a loved one, sloots, feeling stressed etc.

They all live in other states though. I do have some casual friends around here, but it's mostly drinking friends lol, and I think the feeling is mutual.

Yeah same, most of my friend circles were when I was into partying. Now that I am totally over that phase I just don't have any real desire to maintain friendships, and trying to do that often feels forced.
