Our economic depression will last a long time. We have a leader who not only doesn’t embrace what Canada does well (oil and gas) but is actively trying to destroy it. The US is recovering at such a rapid rate because trump understand the key to economic viability is through energy independence. Our leaders sorely lack this insight.

I've heard that a ton of people leaving Toronto/GTA are flooding smaller towns/cities like London. Selling their expensive homes in the GTA and buying 2-3 properties in London thus driving home prices over there higher. Many locals in the smaller towns/cities are now unable to afford buying a home.

Sounds kind of like what's going on in Vancouver/BC.

Wanna know how bad it is, even our (Montreal) fukin libraries are closed because of the covid lmao. Gyms (including pools and other sports venues), dine in and bars have been closed for a few weeks now and still going until November 23rd. On that day they will reconsider depending on the amount of cases.

yes probably. the homeinflation does bleed into the rest of the GTA. Ive always lived in Toronto and its sad to just see a great city be destroyed before my eyes. So many mom&pops dying everyday due to the government slow bleed. Even alot of Starbucks are shutting down (sign of the economic climate).

I usually go to Montreal a couple times a year because its a nice and fun trip that doesn't take too much travel time. But I haven't gone the syear because there's no nightlife or restaurants which are the main reasons to go. Sad.

It's absolutely disgraceful. The city has one of the, if not the, best night life in Canada and it has been slaughtered. With that venue and the hospitality sector dead, I have no idea how it will bounce back, if ever.100%, there are literally flyers for communism "workshops" at the local parks, will take a picture next time I walk by one. I am Canadian and when I returned home mid covid lockdown back in June I was held up at the border for more than 10 minutes... Usually it's a 1 minute interaction. Border agent was just grilling me with question and question followed with paperwork requests. As a Canadian I was sitting there in my car with my a$$hole clinched not knowing WTF this guy was going to do to me when I'm coming back to my own country of birth. Guy was telling me there are million dollar fines and imprisonment if quarantine was not followed and blah blah blalh.

CBSA kept calling my home for "wellness" checks but they were more investigative. Asking chit like what I have eaten, how I got my food, who brought it, do I have fresh air... Couldn't stand it anymore. Dipped back out the country 3 days later.. Even if my plates were ran by a cop on the streets they would know I'm supposed to be in quarantine therefore they know I'm "breaking the law"... Or so they say.

Youre literally just wrong lmao. Look at the rental vacancies. Rents across the boards are down like 25-30%. All universities are Zoom now you think those students are still living in the city? Home prices are stable but its irrelevant as people buy homes for investment purposes. The rentals, which people rent to LIVE in are at super high vacancy rates right now.

I hate it. It really sucks. I never had the time to travel due to work. Then the plandemic hit and got laid off and now had all the time in the world. But now I have the time to travel there's no point because everything, everywhere in Canada is shut down basically. People ARE leaving toronto for the burbs and smaller towns. I know of two people personally and they know of many more... It's totally feasible with all this work from home crap. That's all I'm going to mention about that because you're going to be on the defensive no matter what.

Rents are down because of online schooling. Online school isn't going to happen for the next five years. These people are gonna flood the rental market right after schools let in class education return.

And you're grossly overestimating the amount of secondary properties that the general public can afford to buy for investments. And you don't buy investment properties for cities that are collapsing. The people of Toronto understand corona is not a long term thing and are buying properties because mortgage rates are low. We're doing fine you *******.
