"For everyone commenting on Youtube. This is a real video from a trail camera on my property in southern Illinois. The date and time on the video are correct. We think he was hit by a combine header when the neighbors were harvesting a field. We have another picture of the deer on Oct 16 with no injury and a blurry picture on Oct 17 with the injury. So in the video the buck has survived more than 24 hours. Hard to imagine he can survive this injury. We are looking to recover the deer if he is dead. We are currently hunting the property and plan to shoot the deer if we see it. Good luck to everyone hunting this fall. Be safe."

Seeing it's shoulder move up and down out of the wound as it walks is pretty surreal. Crazy there doesn't seem to be any dry blood on its fur or anything either.

I grew up not far from wherever this video was shot.

In upstate NY, people treat deer like magical woodland blessings. "DID YOU SEE IT WAS LIKE AN ANGEL." Not unjustified. They will walk up to you in your yard and hang out with you like good citizens and are mostly on their best behavior. Majestic.

In southern IL and surrounds, they have an extra chromosome or something. Overpopulated to the breaking point. Probably a major cause of death with the sheer number of accidents, hooves and antlers coming through windshields like the slack-jawed unwitting serial killers of the prairie that they are. Fukkin' potato animals.

We rekked a van near Carbondale back in about '99 because my father was out one night doing deliveries and a buck tried to fight him.

Literally ran out into the road and put his antlers down to fight a van doing 55 with a half ton of cargo in it. He couldn't swerve away in the circumstances and couldn't stop fast enough. Tore off half the hood, the entire headlight assembly, then staggered away all proud like it was worth it.
