This has been a rough year for many people I know, myself included. Above and beyond the pandemic situation we're experiencing, this past year has been really trying for a number of different reasons. I try to escape periodically by painting peaceful scenes on canvas. I wanted to share such a scene with you all this morning. I painted this Tuesday afternoon amidst all the political turmoil down south.

Just wanted to share this soft painting with you all and encourage you all to care for yourselves and your loved ones, and to try not to get too bogged down by things that are out of your control.

I also tried to take into account the feedback I received on here when I shared my last painting. A few members here mentioned that my trees were unnatural, with 't-rex' limbs, so I kept that in mind and tried painting them differently.

I used very little paint here. I wanted to try and make this as soft as possible. It's not great, but it was a relaxing experience.

Early winter, pastel dawn.

I didn't have any a priori art skills. Anyone can get to where I am today if they are willing to dedicate themselves.

It's really relaxing srs. Overall, I experience 2 different paint days. Sometimes, it's impromptu, I have a scene in mind I want to get out on canvas or I need to wind down, so I'll create something like I posted here. But other times, I challenge myself. I'll pick a painting to try out that I know will provide a healthy challenge and might be frustrating. I think that balance is really what allows you to grow. You can't keep painting easy scenes because you'll never develop your skill, but you can't keep painting really challenging things completely outside your skill level because you'll then experience disappointment and frustration and that might taint your motivation and desire to continue.

Yes, this is how I started. My entire life, I've always wanted to try painting like that. I eventually decided to just bite the bullet, got one of those Bob Ross master paint kits, and just gave it a try. I followed along to episodes of The Joy of Painting - that's how I learned.

And yes, it is a style called wet on wet. You cover the canvas with a thin coat of 'liquid white,' which is really just a thin white paint, and you blend right on the canvas. It's a really fun style of painting. I'm really into getting things done in one sitting and the wet on wet style allows me to do that.

Yes, see above post here. It takes me around 2-3 hours to paint a painting, start to finish. I'm the same way with other work I pursue. I like doing things in one sitting.

I've never really considered. Honestly, there's a ton of videos on Youtube already, many of them from people that are able to create much more impressive paintings. Kevin Hill is a really good painter on there. I'm thinking about following along with a video of his one day. It looks like a really good challenge.

The natural talent required are a steady hand and good hand eye coordination.

If you have those two you can learn just about anything dealing with art.

I really don't have any interest in doing portraits. I think that one would be a steep learning curve. I don't paint to sell, either. I really only do it for myself.
