Deadlifting with hex plates (reps)

Joined a new gym, they have 4 45lbs bumper plates and the rest are hex plates. Went for a 5lbs 420x5 stiff leg dead pr and had the bumpers on first, after the 2nd rep one side shifted forward like 4 inches while I was controlling the descent and completely ruined the set.

Was so irate by this I re attempted and conventionalled by mistake due to the rage then just said fuk it and left (dead srs)

What do? Back to expensive gym that is 2x as far or any way around this chit? I figured 2 bumpers on each side wouldn’t be that bad..

If you actually controlled the descent, it wouldnt have shifted. I deadlift with hexplates just fine.

Yeah my descent is very slow on stiff legs to make sure I don’t extend my knees

Do you do touch and go or deadstop?

Deadlifting with hex plates sucks.

Maybe you could do some really low rack pulls? That way the plates do not hit the ground. Many casual gym owners might get angry though.

Only do low rep deadlifts? That was those plates cannot mess up your reset.

I have never tried this, but a Hexbar Deadlift feels more straight and might be less shakey.

Don’t think those would have great carryover to my conventional which is my main goal and 5 reps is low for me tbh. Didn’t realize gyms other than la chitness had hex plates

Ty for suggestions tho brah

I was thinking more along the lines of replacing the 5 reps with like 8 singles where you completely reset each rep. But the yoga mat idea is probably better.

i hate deadlifting with hex brah. if you don't control the descent, they'll bounce off in a weird direction. then if you're going heavy, the slightest change will mess you up.

i've tried DL with a mix of bumper and hex, but if you have not choice, then you just have to control it.

Dunno how I could have controlled it any more really, when I do stiff legs it’s like a 2 second descent to maintain form

I was always in front of a mirror and autistically had to line the bar up perfectly, but it might be better to just shift your feet. I never tried shifting my feet but it would use less energy than screwing around with a loaded bar to line it up
I really wanna avoid touch and go cus my weakness is off the ground so wanna train that

I’d try shifting feet but in this case the shift was so far forward I literally couldn’t. I do the autistic bar straightening too tho lmao

Anyone that deadlifts with anything other than steel plates might as well be a crossfitter.

Hex plates are goat, you don’t have to constantly be adjusting their position and they don’t roll
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"

Hex plates are awful

i just dont touch the ground (and dont have any hex plates in my gym anyway)

feel like because of that i should do more deadlifts off a 2 inch platform for better rom but im always too lazy

i just do a pause at the lowest point occassionally, hopefully that makes up for it
