Can you imagine the cardio needed for wars back in the day?
Running around holding a shield and sword for HOURS swinging your sword around against some other guy. Chances are you were prob drinking bulk rum/mead/wine the night before aswell so you're hung over as balls.
How the fck did people survive entire balls and not gas out

If 80% of the soldiers in a war die then 20% still survive. It's simple math

Well. I'd imagine that carrying buckets of water for your household, manually planting, managing and harvesting your field, hunting and all that using no guns and processing the meat with whatever was available then was mildly strenuous work.
Add in building everything you need by hand, walking everywhere, etc... and id bet your average Roman dude would mog all but the top 1% of miscers.

They didn't swing swords around for hours. Battles may have lasted all day, but they didn't look like hollywood movies. Only the front line in a formation would be fighting, and they would be rotated in/out as soldiers got tired. Mostly the objective of each soldier was not to get killed, not to make wild, energetic attacks at their enemies.

The roman diet was 3000 calories a day
Each roman soldier during war had a brief period of fighting. Once x amount of time passed, the front troops would go back in line to rest up, thats why romans thought in square formation so the front troops could retreat to the back of line (or die) and the next soldier behind them takes over.

If you were wealthy none of that even applied. Markets in rome were amazing and had everything needed.
Also rome had the first welfare system of free bread to all roman citizens

I still find it funny that for a period of time, war was conducted by lining up across from the enemy and taking turns shooting the first rows down. Imagine being the poor fuk in the first row. This is one of the reasons we cucked the British... they had no idea what to do when we ambushed their marches and used the terrain to our advantage.
