I'm sure all reasonable people can agree that prejudice against individuals for characteristics beyond their control is idiotic.

The outward appearance of an individual in regards to these characteristics says nothing about their personality, values, behaviours or attitudes.

To stereotype an individual on the basis of these characteristics erases their individuality and instead presumes they belong to a monolithic block.

Once again, I'm sure reasonable people will agree that this is idiotic.


Now my question is this:
Based upon these assumptions, is manletism (prejudice against manlets) as detestable as racism?

Things to consider:
- Whereas differences in race are (arguably) superficial, or "skin deep", being vertically challenged poses very real problems for day to day life in the real world (beyond those created through prejudice) ie. Not being able to reach the top shelf, a poor view of the stage at concerts, and issues with dating.

- Is height as "out of your control" as race?

- Do stereotypes exist by virtue of the characteristic (no smoke without fire), or do they exist as part of a more meta self-fulfilling prophecy?

- Why is it considered more socially unacceptable to mock those based on characteristics like race, which create far fewer problems in interacting with the world (beyond those created by prejudice) than it is to mock those because they are short (which is arguably more similar to a disability, I'm not calling manlets disabled, but in terms of real-world-interaction-problem-generation, it is a spectrum)

- Is mocking/prejudicing disabled people more or less socially unacceptable than racism?

Because height is not protected legally or even socially, at least not yet, it's fair game and if someone hates on you or judges you or treats you differently, you can bet they are the same people who would discriminate racially if they could get away with it.

The difference between races are not superficial nor just skin deep, it goes far beyond that. There is 200-500k of separate evolution between races which have contributed differences not just to a surface level but neurologically and hormonally. I don’t really care to get into a long debate about that right now though so I’ll just answer your question.

It doesn’t make sense that short men are the only group it’s become socially accepted to shame. We are in a time where it’s seen as bad to pick fun at someone because of their race, gender, sexuality, weight etc but if you are a short man that is still fair game. I always found it ridiculous how there are plus sized models and mannequins but we have yet to see short male mannequins or runway models. Even the teen male mannequins are about 5’9-5’10.

Intelligence is supposed to be fairly related to genetics, but it's always fair game to call somebody stupid. Mocking those diagnosed as mentally challenged is completely out of bounds, but few think twice about calling other people stupid.


I think the main question is a loaded one - manletism and racism are both very relative terms. Is a girl who decides not to date me because of my race or height a manletist/racist? Most would say no.

I am somewhat sympathetic to height preferences in dating, even as a 5'8" male, though I think have been way overblown, and their existence is largely dependent on status-chasing.

Race preferences always sat weird with me though. I understand having preferences because races/nationalities do tend to have similar looks, but there's still so much variety within populations. Like I get it if you don't like a stereotypical American white girl's looks generally speaking, but to then say you don't date white women at all because of this seems weird to me.

I guess has have some sympathy for "manletism" compared to racism" in this instance. Height is at least a very measurable and static attribute, whereas race is both fuzzy and not as descriptive due to the variation within populations, which leads me to believe that people's racial preferences are much more likely to be socially motivated.


I think somebody saying something like race X is inferior to race Y is fairly comparable to somebody saying people below Z height are inferior, though.

Yes, manletism is definitely in the same vein as racism, although I don't think manlets are "discriminated" against many places outside of the dating scene to an extent and the misc lmao. I've certainly never been denied a job because of my manlet status. I don't have a problem with people making fun of manlets, although I guess if I felt "manlet prejudice" actually affected me in any meaningful way, I might care.

Also, if youre going to compare manletism to racism, you might call it "heightism" instead. Manletism would be like saying n-word-ism instead of racism. Not sure if saying the n-word is a bannable offense here lol.

I didnt know the manlet thing was such a heated topic until the misc told me. Being 6'1, you never are told you are too short for a girl. Honestly most of my friends who get the most poosay are manlets. One of my friends is 5'5, ginger AF and slays the most poosay ive ever seen.
