Married Brahs GTFIH. Are Diamonds a Scam? (SRS) Talk to me about rings.
Welp, it's about that time boyos. I told her to pick out a ring, and off she goes to Tiffany... $18k plus tax... I ain't a cheap ass, but I can't fathom spending this kind of dough on a stupid fukking stone. I just know I'm getting scammed. She knows its a scam too but what do? Those jewelry store salesmen are greaseballs. I'd rather buy her 25 cent ring from those gumball machines plus a brand new rolex... At least there's actual craftsmanship in a timepiece.
I know they can make lab made diamonds which are identical to a molecular level. I don't think she would mind one of those either... How do you even know what you're getting? How do you even know what's real and whats not? I can't wrap my head around diamonds and it's driving me insane as I usually have to master something before I buy... It's getting to the point where I'm going to throw in the towel and just spend the money anyway to get this out of the way.
Looking for serious suggestions. What do married brahs?

Lol...yes scam, duh.
lmfao if a girl picked an 18k ring...id just dump her.
I bought a lab diamon..only 3/4ct from brilliant earth and bought the setting from a local jeweler.
Lab diamond was much cheaper than traditional diamond..the lab diamond from online was even a lot cheaper than a lab diamond from a local jewler.
from brilliant earth, you can select the quality of the diamond and it comes with a spec sheet for your diamond. Each diamond has a serial number engraved in the diamond so you can ID and it can be traced.

The ******* salesman kept trying to tell her that the lab made diamonds don't hold value... I was like what difference does it make? We're not trying to sell that chit, it's a lifetime keepsake.
Tell me more. I'm oblivious.

diamonds are only worth what we perceive them to be.. just cause the jewelers say this piece of rock is worth this $$$$ doesn't mean anything. Only because we are willing to pay x amount of dollars. Just like gold, it wouldn't have any value if we stopped caring about it.

Real diamonds don't have any resale value either so don't trust the scheming sales guy. Buy a lab diamond with good proportions placed in a fancy setting and save yourself the stress. No one can tell the difference because they're both identical.

Mrs Beer had a ring her grandmother gave her and wanted it re-set and used as a wedding ring. Cost something like ~$250 to get done 25 years ago.
Also $18K is absurd unless you are CEO-ing it. I think anything more than a month's net salary is ridiculous for what is essentially a decoration and I have a lot more respect for something meaningful that anyone with an imagination could get done for $1K max.
EDIT
Also again, there is a strong correlation between couples that spend some crazy amount of money on their wedding and early divorces. Basically women who think in terms of fairy tales and princesses and other such nonsense instead of being adults, are useless and stupid. Who knew?

Compare similar quality and size.
Compare prices between the lab and natural. Then you should have a solid idea on the price of the diamond.
The next part is the setting...which can be pretty expensive on its own...this is where you may want input from your gf..she'll select what style she wants. I think lots of places just order from a large manufacturer so you can find price differences on the same setting between diferent jewlers.
Once you have this info, you can have a solid idea as the total amt. you would need to spend...from there you can just shop around and find the best prices.

First of all, why would she pick that one? Does she work and know the value of money? Not good to go broke as soon as you start a life with someone. Financial problems kill relationships.
Dunno if I'd call them a scam. She wants one. They're willing to sell it to her. It's probably been appraised. It ain't like she's been tricked into buying a gorgeous diamond.

Thanks for the replies guys, just checked out brilliant earth. Just made my life so much easier.
Thankfully money isn't an issue (no brag) but I'm not one to throw it away and let some sleezebag get the best of me. The wedding we agreed would be a small, outdoor setting at a ranch. 60 people maximum.

The one she chose from Tiffany was on the lower end of the spectrum for a 1.15ct diamond. It looks nice, I'll give her that.

Money better spent on taking care children.
I like the idea of gold wedding bands - there is something about the gold storing the aura of the wearer.
The whole marriage thing seems like a bit of a sham to me.
I know a dude who is planning a wedding and it's going to cost them 50-60K!
Not sure what to think of that - but I am too poor to afford spending a total of 100K to have kids, LOL.
I personally feel the money is better spent on a house, etc.
Only time will tell.

I'm the type of guy who would save that money and spend it on airfare to fly in family and friends to attend my small private wedding. I wouldn't even accept cash donations in the envelopes that the old timers do. I'd cringe at myself for that.

She's kinda doing you a favor if you think about it logically. Since you're on misc, I can assume you are a CEO $10k/day brah who enjoys nothing more than MONEYMOGGING poorcels for fun and self esteem.
When she hangs out with all the slags in her sloot pack, don't you want her to MOGG them and make them feel bad about choosing some poorcel poverty dude?
Do you want people to think you're fukkin poor and unable to afford a measly $18k ring? That's not even expensive. I know plenty of women with $50k+ rings. Use your head and stop behaving like a peasantcel.

I know your post is sarcastic, but I don't really give af what people think... Besides, she already has an air headed "friend" whose married to a 30k millionaire "buy my book" "get rich quick by following 5 step program" loser. You lost her respect by letting her choose instead of figuring it out yourself.
Online is the way to go, so you can research and compare things at your own pace. I bought a loose diamond on brilliant earth and took it to a local store for a custom design. She gets compliments every day srs.
It's very entertaining to see your girl ringmog other women and watch their eyes go directly from her finger to checking you out.
