Didn't believe the tradie stuff until now

Never really believed in the tradie jokes on the misc, until now.

Getting the boiler and pipes re-done and in the 2 hours they have been here, i have witnessed 5 cigarette/tea breaks.

Good thing the council are paying.

Unbelievable.

Some tradies were digging up internet cables outside my window the other day.

It started raining so one of them lay down on a bench at a covered bus stop and had a nap using some wrapped up cables as a pillow. The others huddled under a tree and stared at their phones (presumably placing bets on the football).

I wonder if the napmaxxing tradie was the most senior.

UK here, I had a tradie out to fix my bathroom light a few weeks ago, first thing he said when he gets into my apartment is "fukk sake". Absolute scum, making me feel like they're inconvenienced immediately. They should be killed for their meat to feed the poor.

These guys cant even speak English (srs), deffo the council sub contracting to a dodgy firm. (Croydon Council has just gone bust, so wouldn't surprise me).

No joke i think the majority of them just struggle with general time keeping, lucky for them most are self employed. How hard is it to be at a place at a time to do a job...

Truth. I worked for a company with union laborers which are like the proto-uber tradie. I've witnessed them call a rubber tire backhoe, to be driven over 20 miles on a road taking over an hour, just so they didn't have to pick up a shovel and dig for 10 minutes. I'd say on a *good* day, we may have gotten 3 hours of legitimate work out of them.

I felt so bad for the ops manager. He was basically like a Principal at a special needs Jr. High School.

Based on my experience with skilled tradesmen I have no problem believing this

It's the unions that have made tradies lazy. I know in China they would get a building up in a quarter of the time it takes tradies here in MA. That overtime and such makes the jobs take a lot longer.

INB4 US has codes and OSHA requirements. That is true but I see on the regular 2 guys working at a site and 4 others standing around doing fuk all.

How are you going to replace plumbers, steam fitters etc with robots?

Out of all the trades realistically the only ones that can be replaced would be truck drivers and that's only on long haul.

das it. union tradies working directly for a company (not out of a hall) are almost untouchable. Hell, we even had one get caught drunk on a backhoe, and another caught stealing from the company and we couldn't get them canned permanently because of the grievances filed. unions had a time and place, but mostly they are a mob like cancer anymore.
