If Covid was so deadly why are mask rules so lax?

BRB if you don't have a mask just tie a shirt around your face, that should do the trick.

Seems to be more of a "compliance" thing than a "let's stop this deadly virus from spreading" thing.

They'd probably push it harder if there was actually science showing masks had any effect on respiratory viruses. In which case I would kind of agree we should wear them, even though corona is far from deadly enough that it should be necessary.

As it is now they have to lobby and push propaganda to make it happen.

the more i read on covid, it seems not being close to people is the most important part. Being close raises chances of getting covid exponentially.

the simple explanation is that people would complain if the laws were harsher. It has already been shown that many don't wear them properly, some not at all - this highlights the extent to which people care about something invisible. The leniency comes mainly from the fact that they know a lot of people will not listen and so they try making it easier. We live in a PC world at this time. The second reason is that it's not only civilians who don't care, it's also that law enforcement does not care. They are people too, who perceive invisible threats the same way, possibly ignoring it. It's a new rule that police haven't trained decades in handling, so they may let it slide. We can't just go from 0-100 so quickly, it would result in some major pushback, I mean just look at the social pushback that you see on here in the misc over the laws that are not even very stringent (this thread topic).

I would bet that the next time a pandemic occurs that is potentially worse than covid19, the gov response would be much stricter. People (both civilians and law enforcement) would likely take it more seriously and result in the laws being more stringent. There will also be a select group who will resist more fervently, and the law enforcement will concentrate on that group.

It's more about being in the same enclosed space. The distance would increase with how poorly ventilated the room is. An infected person will basically gradually fill a room with aeorosols containing virus particles, with the concentration increasing over time.

When the tag inside the mask tells you explicitly that it doesn't do a damn thing to stop neither you or others from infection, but you put it on anyways, you realize that the mask is simply another virtue signal, and you're either wearing it to virtue signal yourself, or to avoid harassment by other virtue signallers.

We're living in a post logic world. Basic truth and objectivity are under attack. And if we can't even find common ground, or a starting point on the most basic facts, we have zero hope of solving any problems whatsoever, as we have no place to start from in finding solutions.

Remember when we were told not to wear masks? Now they’re everything for protecting against the virus. Yet a study just came out yesterday that shows masks don’t do sh*t. I wear a mask in stores to be respectful to the elderly but I don’t wear one anywhere else.

that and poor leadership want to be seen as "taking action" so they make rules that dont have any actual affect.

look at all the other rules in addition to masks, most of them are completely pointless - curfews, beaches - some places said you could be on the sand but not in the water, others exact opposite you could be in the water but not laying out. Hawaii closed down their state parks and trails. For what, that is all fuking stupid and doesnt do anything.

My gyms not shutting down just a bunch of new rules ex always have to wear a mask.

If you don't wear it properly you will be asked to leave.

There are a few other rules too.

That's fine but my guess would be in a month or two the gym will close again.
