Why do people become scientologists?

Title. The church of scientology is worth a billion dollars? Seems like lots of celebs join it for some reason. Was watching the Netflix doc on it and can't understand how so many people have been convinced to donate so much cash to it.

They get them to talk about personal stuff during their induction, then they film it and use it as blackmail if they don't continue.

the celebs are on paid endorsement type deals which the low IQ sheep of this world can't resist. Ol' Trumpy should look into this option post 2020, he'd be second to Cruise in pulling power and the Cruise train is probably starting to lose steam by now too. He might legit be able to pull ahead and take over the whole cult. I want kickbacks for this idea Trumpy.
