A depreciating asset is an asset you can deduct taxes for but which is in fact appreciating. A real depreciating asset is not an asset.

An asset is anything you can liquidate for cash. A PS4 is an asset.

I remember the "car meetup crew" from my local high school. Even after they graduated, they would dump all earnings they made into car modifications. Literally living at home and paycheck to paycheck because of the car obsession. I used to think it was crazy, but I look back at it now and realize those kids had 10x as much fun and life experiences as I did. They are also probably doing just as well, if not better financially than I am at this point, a decade later.

I suggest everyone read the book "Die with Zero", by Bill Perkins. It completely shifted my mindset on how to spend money from early twenties all the way through your old age. Spending should actually be shaped like a curve

Lol at being an insecure loser that needs a marketing agency to tell him when to buy a car and feel cool for doing it srs

Yes. The older the car the lower the value and less depreciation able to apply.

It is a depreciating asset by definition but that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. Almost everything we buy in life is bought not with the expectation of appreciation in monetary value.

richest guy in my family drove like an 06 Camry until he retired and then got a 3 series. Net worth 8 figures easy. It's actually quite the opposite, it's usually poorcels spending money on cars they can't afford.

Not true at all. The question is not whether you can have a nice car or not, the question is how much of your time/freedom are you willing to give up for it. If you're rich, you can have all the cars you want and not give up anything.

not sure how those two things are mutually exclusive. plenty of wealthy people own a fleet of super cars... and if its not super cars, its boats, or jets, or whatever the **** they like.

Depends.

You can slow the rate of depreciation by maintaining it properly. IE garaged, not driven in rain, snow, and high sun.

I been telling yall peasants that for the past 3 years.

I don't have a PS4 but if I did it would simply be lumped in with my Cash and possessions portion of my net worth calculation. TV's, tools, jewelry, furniture, etc. If I owned say, 300 PS4's it would be significant.

It’s not that hard to snowball up to owning a 100k car with only putting $10k down, with a car trade in value of $80k. It might take 15 - 20 years, buts completely possible to do so and still have a $250/month payment. The hard part in doing so is getting your initial vehicle since that will require the most upfront money and largest monthly payment. After that, it’s making sure that you can get $10k for a down payment while your car has x value.

That’s what I’m doing. $250/month payment doesn’t really matter to me, so why not have a nice vehicle?
