I drove for two years before, but quit for several reasons. Been working on cars for a living since. The main reason I never went back was my grandmother needed me, but she died a year ago and left everything to me. The fact is that living here, too many memories. She raised me like my mother should have. This depression has effected my work. I'm just so done with it right now. I still have my Class A CDL. Thinking about selling everything, putting my tools in storage, and buying most likely a Peterbilt 379/289 (longnose trucks) and rolling the country for a while. GF even wants to come, bringing dogs too. Not sure all how I will get it started but it will take time to get the house sold and all. The only thing that really bothers me is how damn mind numbing just driving for a living can be. Another aspect is that working on cars keeps you active and strong. Finally, it worries me because you can get rusty when it comes to technical work. Just trying to figure thigns out.

Do you have to pay for maintenance when driving your own truck? Sounds like it'll be more stressful IMO. Although i believe you make more money, but have more expenses.

If it's possible to get adequate exercise while on the road (at least 2 hours a day of some form of exercise even walking) then go for it OP. Sitting all day for a living is terrible for the body but you can mitigate damage by keeping active enough and eating well.

Thanks brahIt's basically like owning your own business and it is expensive where you make lots of money but have to spend a lot. Not near as stressful as being an master tech at a dealership. Last time I drove, it was a company driver. They made it very hard to take a passenger, but I was single. I couldn't have pets or anything. Most of all they would switch you out of trucks. Also when you are a company driver, you are told where to go, when to go, what route to take. Owner/ops don't have to deal with that. If you have to go to sketchy places it pays more, but as a company driver it doesn't. Most of all now, with being able to basically get cable TV and internet in your truck now, I can still Misc.

Were hiring brah, hazmat or tanker endorsed?

It can be difficult. YT is great because I'm seeing some people's fitness setups inside the truck. I made it a point when I drove to get excercice. Yes, it can be bad on the body. Most drivers only get out of the truck to eat junk from truck stops or deliver paperwork, and get in horrible shape. Then again, working on cars all day isn't good for the body either.

None right now. I need to go recertify all that. I can get that pretty quickly. Thanks for letting me know. My issue with getting hired is I haven't driven a truck in 12 years. It would be a process.

Do it for a year and see if you enjoy it.
You can always go back to your previous line of work.

Knew a couple that did this. They lost their home in foreclosure and basically did the trucking thing as a place to stay. Drove team for a couple years and had no bills and because they had nowhere to go, they just stayed out all of the time. They bought their next home cash, but never stayed there so they rented it out.
