what are your thoughts on sumo deadlift vs conventional?

After years of conventional deadlifting and blowing out my back, and having a chit deadlift compared to my squat, I gave up on the deadlift most weeks.
I never understood why I was not a great at the deadlift considering my leg mass and squats chit on just about anyone I ever see in the gym (see sig)

I never wanted to sumo deadlift because it looked ghey af. It almost looks like the motion to prep your angus for your b/f.
I looked myself in the mirror one day and said to myself, "You sir are not part of the long arm short leg crew," and "You aren't part of the manlet long arm crew."

After that moment in time, I absorbed all the gheyness into my soul and became a full-time sumo deadlifter. For the first time in 17 years, I can say it seems that my deadlift (sumo ofc) is finally surpassing my squat.

So I ask you, misc, is the Sumo deadlift ghey?????

I think they are both for twinks and copers.

A good miscer, who was banned for standing up for the aleeboy against tyranny, proved that the ROM of your pathetic dead lifting manlet is less than the average length of incel penors - that is 4 inches

Cheers
"The manlet is a savage beast that knows no moral bound. After falling in disgrace to a manmore, a ravaged manlet would not hesitate to come from behind and land a sucker punch/ swing with a rock to the back of a manmore's head. They are ruthless and you need to spend some more time in the gutter to even begin trying to comprehend what goes on in their minds."

I did something stupid conventional deadlifting and hurt my back. Tried to go back to it and kept tweaking my back. Been sumo deadlifting for a couple months pain free and enjoying it. Eventually I might try conventional again, but I'm a recreational lifter and enjoy sumo, so I don't see downside. Fuk the haters. Do what you like.

its not that i even like the sumo, it just seems to be the same as you explain. I do it and it doesnt kill my low back.
I see that you mentioned you d go back to conventional again, dont. What i do after my heavy sumo sets, sometimes, is do some drop sets conventional sytle at a weight i know i can keep tight low back form.

conventional deadlift = deadlift
sumo deadlift = bootybuilder exercise for females

I've do the occasional set as an accessory after real lifts but they are most definitely gay.

When I'm lean I'm better at sumo. When I bulk I lift more conventional. Currently back at sumo and making good progress. I would say that sumo is a much more technical lift and there is a much bigger learning curve. At the end of the day it comes down to persona preference and eagerness to improve.

watch some highly viewed/high thumb up videos on how to "brace the core". you may think you know how to do this, but you really dont.

Once you learn the proper brace, and are in tune with it, then go to sumo and watch yourself gainzmax

I seriously think deadlifts are a waste of time. Maybe RDLs get a pass , but even when you get strong on those it becomes fatiguing. If your goal is bodybuilding/hypertrophy there are better options in my opinion that are safer and won’t leave you beat

I’ve never done sumo but my plan is to try switching to it once I hit a real conventional plateau

I don’t like the amount of sumo in powerlifting tbh I guess I’m in the minority who thinks it takes away from the sport and just doesn’t look as legit of a lift compared to conventional

Plus just an observation I’ve noticed sumo pullers almost always have lacking upper backs compared to conventional pullers especially in lower weight classes

Not saying you shouldn’t be fatigued but no point to be thrashed after every session. Heavy deadlifts will def thrash you if you go at em. Idk at least that’s my experience. I also dislike the lift so I’m biased

I agree with this but TBH i was tired of seeing monkey arm twinks deadlift more then me while I lol'd at them squatting chit weight.

Litterally there is a bro at my gym that probably weights 170, has long AF arms, and i seen him pulling 505 for reps, but he was struggling to squat 225 for reps.

Conventional deadlift IMO is a lift, more than any other lift, that is more so body proportions than actual strength.

That is why us non manlet bros have to sumo to compete with long arm conventional pullers. Great conventional pullers arent actually stronger than great sumo pullers, the conv pullers just have advantageous proportions in a conventional stance.

I agree it’s the lift most influenced by proportions easily

But the thing is Manlets usually benefit more from pulling sumo and just further increases their leverages. Like I remember I think it was 80-85% of powerlifters at IPF worlds in the 74kg and under classes pulled sumo. It decreases as weight classes go up.

For the squats I think it’s that the lighter desdlifters have long femurs coupled with being light is just bad leverage for squats. I find that the actual top deadlifters regardless of weight class usually have very good squats to go along with them though. But I agree the average light deadlifter pulling a decent amount usually has a sub par squat in comparison

I'd say snatch grip deadlifts m8 = Goat as fk. Hits traps hard + forearms and great all round movement.

You do realize the deadlift hits SO MANY ****ING MUSCLES it is probably one of the best lifts you can do for overall health besides the squat, standing military press and a clean?

Sumo is not a deadlift. it’s a hack squat off the floor

there’s a reason why twinks can pull 700,800, 900lb+ with minimal effort but injure themselves on conventional every time
