It’s solid.
Laid the groundwork for most current science fiction movies.
Let’s face facts though: interstellar, it’s not.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and space-themed movies, however I rarely ever watch anything made before the 80's. Apart from Alien and a couple others, older films are kind of boring to me personally. I tried watching it once and just fell asleep after 30 minutes.

It is a great movie and was very influential. Its a little slow for my liking, but everyone should see it atleast once.
I prefer Alien, which (ironically) borrowed heavily from 2001 with the malfunctioning android

to me it isn't
Jurassic Park
Planet of the Apes (OG)
Terminator
Starship Troopers
The Thing
Alien
...
are all sci-fi movies I put above 2001
but you cannot deny 2001 was groundbreaking and means a lot for sci-fi in general, but as a movie I don't find it that enjoyable tbh
