I guess my answer would be running is THE most natural cardio? As opposed to your new age rage hippie transient fitness equipment that is the assault bike. Yes sure it gets you out of breath and hr up, but so does lying on the floor convulsing like an epileptic shemale.

Thanks for the replies, regarding running outside, I have of course considered it.

Issue is, I cannot run. As in even a light jog. Almost 300lbs. Weirdly brisk walking is effortless for me, can do that for over an hour easily.

Secondly, its cold out, really cold.
Thirdly, I want to do cardio in privacy not in front of other peoples and cars.

Maybe the treadmill isn’t even worth it though? As it pulls your feet back for you, due to the treadmill belt movement, thus you miss out on literally 50% of the stride and movement...

If you're 300 pounds I might suggest a bike only to reduce joint strain, but if you're just walking for now then it shouldn't be an issue. Basically any piece of equipment is only good if you use it - so if you're going to be consistent then have at it. My advice is to wait for Boxing Day sales though.

Treadmills are all about the engine. Use your budget to afford more horsepower, it will last longer.

if you are going to buy cardio equipment for regular use indoors I would suggest a bike:

-- terrain independent

-- weather independent

-- easier on knees

-- can place a monitor in front of you to watch something

-- if you buy one of the easier bikes you can even game on phone or playstation

Great points! I guess the main issue with a bike is that it literally only uses one muscle which is the quadriceps. Doesn’t scream athleticism to me.

-- a lot of muscles apart from quads are used only as stabilisers muscles which won't stimulate growth in a meaningful way in any cardio method

-- you shouldn't count on running/biking for quad growth - leg presses, squats, deadlifts, isolation machines which target those muscles directly

-- from the above point, unless you have a home gym I simply suggest using cardio equipment of your gym...

You sound like a whiny soy redditor. You won't run outside, and are asking if treadmill is worth it, and the alternative is you won't run?

Just stfu and get moving, ANYTHING is better than being a 300 lbs disgusting lard. There is nothing to talk or contemplate of.

I bought one used off ******** marketplace for $100 and it works fine but is a little loud with making thumping sounds but I just crank my tv up and I’m good. My garage isn’t heated so I carried the treadmill downstairs into the spare bedroom. Great way to keep in good cardio shape during the winter. I also have a 10 by 6 foot rubber mat to do body workouts on.

Heart health is everything brah. Do it for that reason, even more so than just losing weight.

Well then it's a good option for cardio and to get your weight down. If you lost some weight you can get some Kettlebells to get shredded.

Depends on your fitness and personal abilities. You should be able to do a few body weight exercises like burpees and turkish get up without weight. If you are used to them you can start KB workouts. Throwing a Kettlebell around will burn a ton of calories and work your muscles.

was gonna say yeah do it but at 300 lb that is a lotta weight on joints so maybe cut to 200 and then start a running program if u still are into it.

i bought one a few months ago for home. works great. haven’t used it much in the last few months as i highly prefer to run outside because it is so much more enjoyable. but if i put on a sports game ive run on the treadmill for 90 continuous minutes while i watch and its nice. will use it when stormy or poor air quality. was in the $1500 range.

At least you are maximising your purchase. Which room in the house have you placed it?

I mean about what you said, the whole idea of getting the treadmill was to cut to 200..... guess running is going to be mad stressful and doesn’t really make sense to walk on a treadmill when (even if the weather is poor) I can just pop outside....

op
when i walk on the incline treadmill for 40-50 minutes with a heart rate around 130-170 i can increase my total consumption of calories by at least 2000.
i drink 15 litres of water a day .
after bulking i ended up at 365 lbs. for my cut i went down to 212 lbs then filled back up to 262 lbs

to make the workout more challenging and to get your heart rate full pin right before walking i recommend you do burpees for 1-2 minutes

Depends on what kind of climate you live in. If it's cold, icy and snowing a lot then it's probably not a bad idea.

Bought a echelon bike instead.
