They're most likely born to English parents and have no interest in learning new languages, can't hold it against them brah.

Though the part about not being able to shut it off is interesting. I think in Russian, French, English and Arabic and I'd blow my brains out if I couldn't shut them off while writing reports.

i speak 5 languages (4 of them i can confidently converse in with natives) and i funnily enough don't use my mother tongue for my inner dialogue, these days it's mainly english (4th lang i learned) and the language i as a migrant learned after my native one

I see, though I speak mainly French in my day to day, I still think in other languages, sometimes in the same dialogue I can use all 4 of them.
