Yep, work in oil/gas industry. Engineer though so in the office more than I’d like.

Very easy to make 6 figures in the field with no college education, but expect being away from home and long hours. Not the best path if you have a family/children.

There are downsides. Shady companies, layoffs in an instant when the market changes, etc.

Oilfield doesn't pay what it used to. Used to be able to make 150k+ as a truck driver.

Are a lot of the trades union or non union contractors ? I thought If work ever gets real slow after I get into the union down here I’d either travel or look for oilfield work And only work half the year.

By far the best non union gig you could get.

its very cyclical, depends on oil demand and price

I am glad i am not in that industry and ended up in something more consistent.

it can be good though esp during the good years but you could get laid off and then you will be competing with all the other lay offs in your industry, must be hard as fuk to recover, i bet a lot move on to different fields during the down times.

I work in the industry but not in the field/patch.

Pay is good but all industry jobs are regardless of sector.

Find a real trade, not a sector to work in.

This is pretty smart OP

find a trade or specialty that allows you to work in oil that is more transferable to other industries so you will have a better time finding work during the down cycles.

The low skilled or specialized jobs that everyone chases when the times are good have their downside. You might be in a position where you got nothing to lose. If i was offered one of those positions when i was working a cuck pleb job i would have taken it but just save money while youre doing it for when the lay offs come.

boyo i just got a 70% in Strength of Materials but i don't even know what "shear" means. I got 18% on the final but it got bellcurved up to 60%.

wat do?

Too late to get in for a noobie OP.

The market crashed and they're are hardly as many jobs as there was.

Imagine all the rig pigs that are out of work with years of experience waiting for the phone to ring/looking daily for their glorious no education low IQ 150-200k/yr paying job back.

You as a complete noobie have no chance to compete with them.

Oil and gas services company, we do frac, coiled tubing, snubbing, well control etc.

Location varies, but usually Texas and Oklahoma. There’s a lot of work in Louisiana but I try and stay the fuk away from that place.
