Fauci "darkest days have yet to come"

America's top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci cautioned on Sunday that the United States is headed for the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic in the upcoming weeks as Americans will see the effects of the holiday season.

Fauci during an exclusive intercation with CNN said that the country is at a very critical point and he shares the concern of that as the U.S. gets into the next few weeks, it might actually get worse. Biden, who will take office in January, last week had said that "darkest days" against coronavirus "are ahead of us, not behind us."

Fauci had reportedly received the first dose of Moderna vaccine last week in Bethesda, Maryland. Fauci said he considered it an honor to be part of this process.

The COVID-19 case total in the United States surpassed the 19 million mark on Sunday, according to the US-based Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from various sources including local authorities and media outlets.

US holiday travel this year was lower than in previous years, but air travel averaged more than one million passengers a day for six consecutive days last week, according to the Transportation Security Agency.

At this point I gotta agree that the media has worn out the "be afraid" button.

The pattern has been fairly stable (17 deaths per 1,000 cases).

So however many thousands of cases you see reported you can forecast that X will die in coming weeks.
At least 1,230 new coronavirus deaths and 152,102 new cases were reported in the United States on Dec. 27. Over the past week, there has been an average of 184,951 cases per day, a decrease of 12 percent from the average two weeks earlier.

For easier math let's round it to 185,000 cases X 7 days = 1.295 Million cases for the week. If the pattern holds (17 per 1,000) then that would give us a forecast of about 22,000 future deaths.

It isn't certain, just like the path of a hurricane isn't certain. But they know there IS a hurricane out there.

I sometimes wonder if people in the media live in some sort of isolated bubble. Have they been outside or talk to ordinary people?

I see people walking theirs dogs, going for jogs, carrying on with their lives.

I've never met anyone nor heard of anyone mentioning they caught it or knew someone who caught it.

I've had it twice. It's a little worse then the normal flu and it affects the lungs so I could see why in theory it could be deadly to someone who has pre existing health conditions. The media is being very dishonest about the death count and who exactly is dying from this. Most of them are morbidly obese and a few cheeseburgers away from a heart attack.

its not young a thriving healthy people dying. its the old and sick. not saying thats ok and we should just leave em for dead. i think most people are upset at the extent of the lockdowns that anything. restrictions should be for the old and sick, not for everyone else.

I work for a pretty large company, and I know plenty of people who got it. A woman in our mailroom died, but she was also morbidly obese. A friend's Grandparents died. They were in their 90's. Another woman got it and had to go on the ventilator because she could barely breathe. She did have asthma. Her husband also had to get a liver transplant, although it would appear his liver was pretty much ****ed prior to him catching COVID, and COVID just accelerated the liver failure. I also know countless others who tested positive, but had minor effects and came back to work a week or two later and were completely fine. My dad's martial arts instructor caught it in the beginning. The guy is in his 80's. Pretty much everyone thought he was done for because we didn't understand much about the virus yet other than the media telling us it's bad. People thought he was done for but turns out the guy had minor symptoms and was perfectly fine.

I am guessing some of you live in small populations if you don't know of anyone who caught it, but it's out there and it's real. From my anecdotal experience, though, the only people who had severe complications, or died, had some prior underlying condition or were really old. Everyone I know who was generally healthy had minor flu-like symptoms and was fine.
