calling out misc artificial intelligence broskis

I remember many miscers spilling some knowledge about machine learning, neural networks and **** a while back when there was a debate on computers replacing humans in a few decades

1. does anyone have a link to that thread?

2. whats a good book to read about artificial intelligence, I have a presentation about the same topic (artificial intelligence and surgery), brb referencing old misc threads for presentations, might even add a screenshot for the lulz

As far as computers replacing humans i.e. a superintelligence/technological singularity event, read "Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies" by Nick Bostrom.

He did Joe Rogan's showif you're interested - forgot it's off youtube but find ep 1350. Not limited to the topic of superintelligence but he also talks about simulation theory etc. This is turbonerd territory but if you're interested I bet you'll enjoy it like I did.

I doubt any book exists current with the state-of-the-art.

OP you should check out Lex Fridman on youtube. The topic of his podcast is AI and machine learning. Information probably isn't as organized and condensed as a book, but he has some great discussions.

If OP's just looking for general knowledge (rather than technical detail), it shouldn't be too big a deal. Like anything from the past ~8 years should be ok. There's definitely been some really really good advances in the past 4 years, but I don't think any of the new techniques were so wildly different that they'd change major expectations for the field. There have been some pretty crazy benchmarks being passed that could sway nonbelievers though.
