Should big tech be able to block right wing social media apps?
I've been having this conversation despite the answer already landing. I want to hear miscs thoughts.
How does an organization know to decide which group behaviors are permitted or acceptable and which aren't?
If not corporations, then government?

Opposing views being totally shut down worries me. I need my beliefs challenged or I won't grow as a person.

should they be able to? Yes
Should police be able to only follow around black people and confront black people they are suspicious of?
I mean its within the law and they arent doing anything illegal if they do.
Doesn't make it right, just like what social media is doing. Just because they can, doesnt mean they should or they arent acting VERY unethically and abusing their power.
They are doing the same thing they claim to be fighting, but hey its okay because its them, and their beliefs are the only right beliefs.

Should they be able to? Probably not.
But we all can understand why they do, they want to rule the world like every other billionaire. The liberal sheep don't care, and why would they, they only believe what they're told to anyway.
But I DO blame every single conservative still using these platforms, if 75,000,000 trump voters deleted ********, Twitter, and all the other horse chit, I bet they'd think twice about it.
I personally have never had any kind of social media.

Yes.
When they are flexing their muscles they are accelerating their own downfall.
The normie masses can only tolerate oppression from big tech for so long and
Deplatformed communites tend to radicalize even more.
You people should read our boy Ted's manifesto - he has valid points on these subjects.

If they are going to moderate what is and is not on their platform they should be held liable for everything that is said on the platform.

Can you explain to me what the biggest limitation is on dapps? I see only 3 or 4 categories all doing the same chit, and it's super simple. Is that just because it's so fresh? Could someone operate a social media platform on blockchain? in theory

I've heard it's a good read. I was thinking about him and Manson this morning, like Manson's thoughts about the race wars.... Seems like alot of it is coming to fruition without many shots being fired.
And both were dosed by cia if I'm not mistaken, part of ultra?

They have every right to, but we should break up companies that get this influential on speech.
Essentially, what is being claimed is that twitter/********/youtube has become some sort of de facto human right for free communication. Then, the government should open a separate branch with extreme transparency to prevent manipulation and provide the service to everyone. Otherwise, I guess they could legislate fragmenting the companies into various platforms. There is no nice solution here.
When you zoom out, it's obvious that nobody has a "right" to social media. If you think big tech has too much power, u can just get off ********/twitter. It's really not that hard.

.
.
1) we ban opposing views
2) very few users will delete
3) the vast majority will continue to use service
4) the leftover opposing views will be so bombarded by our views that it's only a matter of time until they start seeing things our way or at the very least become docile.
5) full control
Now if 75 million people decided to delete their accounts, all they are left with are the people who already agree with them, so they lose all of that marketing revenue and gained no more control...

If you agree to their terms and conditions and then violate them...yes.
I for one do not believe that Trump did this tho. He's smart enough to have plausible deniability in his actions.
Tho big tech going after only right wing groups is definitely not ethical at all...considering ISIS and Ayatollah of Iran still have twitter accounts.
Twitters stock has taken a big hit since the trump ban.

Nope, and they should be sanctioned by the court (Heavily) for attempting to do so. Srs.
My reasoning being: "Big Tech" (the panoply of Apple, Amazon, FB, etc.) have strangled out all present competitors in their space. There is no alternative to them. Any decision on their part to censor or select who can access their platform has significant ramifications that stifle competitiveness. This, ultimately, harms the consumer. Just take a look at the outcry amongst Conservatives RN as example.
This is the current reality, and until stronger anti-trust regulations come through in the industry, we should stand united against arbitrary unilateral decisions regarding "what apps are appropriate" by big corporations, particularly when the apps invite freedom of speech / assembly issues.

None of the above constitutes legal advice nor should be interpreted as such.

Should they be able to? Yes. This is not a 1A issue. They have terms of service. If they are violated, they can remove the user. The 1A applies to government ("Congress shall make no law..."). Governments cannot censor, private companies can.
Should they? Maybe. If there is a clear violation of terms of service that the user agreed to and that standard is applied consistently, then that user absolutely should lose their privileges. If that's just an excuse to make a politically motivated ban or if the company does not apply the terms of service evenly to everyone, then, no, they shouldn't do that.
