In a small tribe of 50-150 everyone knew everyone else, for their entire lives. So there were no 1-night-stands. Generally relationships would last several years and in that time the man and woman would have children and raise them through their most vulnerable infant stages together.

They probably wouldn't understand the modern concept of permanent marriage but the concepts of "exclusivity", "family", "cheating", "jealousy" and such are programmed into us at a biological level.
