How do you move to another country (srs)

I plan on selling my current house right now and then using it to buy a new house 75% paid off (mortgage 25% remaining) so I can keep the cash on hand.
I'm thinking about also selling my current rental house (single family home renting to 3 tenants) where I'll end up with about 210k cash after.

I seriously am thinking about travelling and living in other countries and working remote. But potentially might want to buy a home there or use the cash to start a business.

Anyone know what hoops you have to jump through to move to another country? My first thought was Indonesia. You can get a decent villa for like 200k. But I saw that you need to either be doing business or something to actually have a resident Visa to move there. Or have a country sponsor your employment and residency.

What countries dont have strict restrictions for ex pats?

It depends on the country.

US passports can travel to several with no problem for short-term. Visas are a formality for others. You probably need sponsorship for some. It should take a few minutes to figure out.

My general impression is if you're a decent class and from a good country, you can more or less go where you want.

Im not sure where you're looking at, but most villages have spotty internet at best compared to western Europe/ North American standards.

Unless you're a refugee, you really can't just up and move to another country without something of value to offer them.

You're being too idealistic, brah. Your attitude will change once you actually experience life in a developing country. Dead srs

it's awesome in developing countries. it's more earthy. people aren't glued to their phones or technology cause connection is trash. everyone is friendly and wants to hang out together. everything is more outgoing, people don't stay inside.

depends on the country as well but most developing countries in asia are amazing. and there's things like bartering like someone's price is 500 whatever currency... and you can be like... i'll offer 450 for that. and no tax, no insurance, no rent

our idea of vacation getaways = their daily life. relaxation and fun included

it's a huge culture shock though, living in a developing country. or in the country-side of asia. mainly because people in modernized developed worlds live like robots, always need a smartphone, or need a computer, or plugged in with earphones.

If you want to stay long term in Indonesia you can get a tourist visa and just leave for a day and go back with a new visa every 60 days, or find an Indonesian to sponsor you for a social visa (180 days) if you have money I think you’ll be able to find someone to sponsor you for a social visa.

I was born in Thailand so that is the only country I could move to easily.
But I'm more drawn to Indonesia.

I speak English and 2nd grade Vietnamese lmao.

Yea I this seems like the best option. There're businesses that will sponsor for social visas. But would rather buy a home, than spend $600-700 a month on an apartment there.

Not running away from anything. I have a house thats paid off, I have a rental house, and i make decent money in a really good field that will get me 120k in a couple years.
Understanding what I really want in life the past year made me realize the lifestyle I want to achieve and live is much more attainable somewhere else, with a lot less noise and in a superficial society.

It may, and it may not. But that's what life is about right? Is experiencing.
My mom spent 10 years trying to get to America for a better future for me. I appreciate that. & Now I have the opportunity to build a life that I'd want to live.

I use to want a big house and a nice car, and a good paying job. I have all that now, and the only thing left is to want "more" bigger house, more expensive car, higher paying job.
I could probably retire with what I have now in another country, do some freelance work, or spend my time meditating, community work, playing an instrument, spending time in nature.

I've traveled to Peru with a friend and though it is a third world country, people dont seem like they even notice. People are friendly, they're just living and existing. We live in America and everyone's really about themselves. We really said, Wow I can see myself retiring here, but it really got me thinking about living somewhere else

If you are not dependent on timezones, you could try getting a visa to teach english part time. It would require 2 work loads though.

You can also check out golden visa programs. Many countries offer residency for investing in property.

Marriage is another but i mean no.

Edit... Fang^^^ if you are under 31 you can apply for a Working Holiday Visa. Idk if covid shut that down, but before it, it was pretty easy to get accepted and it costs 0 to apply.

Yep. Many countries offer it, but it gets pricy.

Working Holiday Visas are for Americans looking into living in select countries...off the top of my head theres Aus, NZ, Singapore, and Ireland...
Rent first and then you can find the best area - one of my rugby mates has a Leasehold (25 year lease) villa about 20 minutes from Ubud. The only issue is women if you don't have a GF, so you have to go into the city for that...

Visa runs are a minor inconvenience...

He spent $175K for his place and it looks like this:https://www.ubudproperty.com/code=UL.342

[img]https://i.imgur.com/jb4QGL2.png[/i mg]
Dont mind the lack of women, I'm content alone, but going into the city for that isnt a big deal either I'm sure I'll meet a lot of people anyway.

This is the exact thing I'm looking for, looked for properties in Ubud a few months back. Under 200k is right in my ball park.
So how did he move there? Is buying a Leasehold considered investing in property there?

You can do that right here if you want bud. Take your cash, buy a small house in a nice small town, live a low key life with low expenses and spend your time relaxing in nature. Don't need to work an 8x5 in a cube if your lifestyle doesn't require 50k to support.

Living in America only requires 'working 8 hours a day for a company that I don't care for until I'm in my 60s' if that's what you choose to do.

Go get a flip phone. Get rid of your televisions. Buy a bicycle. Get a small house with a big yard and plant it in a way that attracts nature. At the very least give that a shot before moving somewhere else.

Check out the money mustache guys blog. A little different than the lifestyle I live but definitely has some great thoughts on getting off the hedonistic treadmill and focusing on happiness rather than money like we do in the west.

this depends

A lot of Eastern Europe rural parts have stronger internet than the West

A lot of Asian countries have spots that are not the most urbanised areas (capitals) but not slums

I agree with a complexity that you might need to learn the language - unless you are rich you still need to work something

But I know white Western doctors who work in Malaysia and they say life is the bomb
communist until you get rich
rightwing until financially secure
atheist until the plane starts falling
slootist until you get married
muslim after you get married
