Anyone used to watch Degrassi back in the day?

Sup Misc, important topic to discuss here. Was anyone else a fan of Degrassi back in the day? I'm talking Next Generation btw, not Junior High/High. I was into the show in like 2003-2009. I then picked it back up in 2014 and stopped again. Can any Canadian brahs give some insight into how popular the show was over yonder? I saw that there is a channel on PlutoTV that exclusively airs Degrassi which made me reminisce and make this thread.

It started asThe Kids of Degrassi Street. They used to show them on those reel to reel projectors in elementary school. Canadian boomer miscers will know what's up.

Edit: To answer the OP Degrassi Jr High was hugely popular and ahead of it's time in a way as the show took on controversial topics like drugs, alcohol and sex which wasn't the norm for shows aimed at a teenage demographic. No idea how popular the later iterations were though.

I watched degrassi a couple of years ago out of randomness. The show gets more woke, to no surprise, show has always been fairly progressive with issues. It gets weird though and that's why the show is done for good.

I think what they did was genius though. Take random high schoolers to become potential actors and then replace them with new high school students when their time is up.

Junior High and High were a bit before my time, but I watched them on Amazon Prime Video a few years back. It definitely had one of these "watch in classroom" feel.

The show was pretty low budget. They couldn't even come up with another song for The Zit Remedy in their 4 years of highschool.
