Is Maximus Decimus Meridius from Gladiator the ideal male character/archetype?

Watched Gladiator recently. Maximus IMO is the ideal personality type -- one all men should aspire to. A leader and a family man. A great individual who served his people in battle, neither for the fame nor the glory. All he wanted to do was go back home to his wife and son.

"Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you’re already dead! [cavalry laughs] Brothers, what we do in life echoes in eternity."

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

I'm more of a Marcus Furius Camillus man myself

Great choice. Maximus was a great character.

I would throw Denzel Washington's character Robert McCall from "The Equalizer" movies in there. Guy was kind and helpful to everyone around him but merciless to evil ones.

As an archetype, kinda.

But he also invaded innocent countries fighting for a Rome he doesn't really know much about.

He is a great soldier and an honorable man, who acted out of duty, but he also lacks the understanding of what he is doing. He is conquering lands, which are bound to end up in the pockets of the same people, who go on to murder his own family.

He confronts this part of his life and himself to some extent, eg when he admits to his new germanic friend that his was one of the places he invaded.
