Trying to figure out a career

24, just recently realizing that my dream of being an artist and writer isn’t something I’m willing to stake my life on. I’ll still do those things, but on the side.

Thing is, I really have no notable skills and no other ambitions or passions that aren’t creative. I want a job that can net me a decent salary, while I work on my passions on my own time. Just looking for some ideas.

Look into any sort of support role at a startup, maybe customer service or operations. You should be able to do it remotely and the pay is decent, then after a few years you can work your way up into customer success or product type roles. The way you're thinking about this is wise - figure out something that's good enough that will afford you a decent lifestyle and the time for your passions. Good luck.

what are you interested in bro?

you have to do some soul searching in regards to a career. really think about something you can see yourself doing 5 days a week for 25-30 years without wanting to rope. i'd say the ability to endure the long ride is more important than the salary or hourly wage youre being paid, imo

I started out as a music major, then switched chemical engineering. Pick a hard degree then take a job you're over qualified for. I work for the government and legit do nothing almost every day. Pay and benefits are great, tons of time off and I've never even met my boss in real life.

To consider this in more of a philisophical sense, I'll mention that life is all about experience and you need to decide what you want to experience. Then go out and pursue it. And learn to parlay that into a career. Granted music and writing are hard to break into. Since you want to express yourself creatively, have you considered architecture? It's a broad topic that encourages outside-the-box type thinking to achieve design solutions.

Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

OP I've acquired too little info from your posts ITT to give you any kind of useful career advice.

But as always with these sorts of things, the first step is acknowledgement/acceptance of your current situation. The second step is brainstorming ideas for types of work/industries, correlated with your interests and skillsets, while being cognizant of your options, talking to people you know in life that are in fields you're interested in, etc. The third step is to stick to one idea. The fourth step is to chart a course to logically and strategically get to that idea becoming your reality. The fifth step is to begin the course, while living within your means, avoiding debt, generating some kind of income in the interim to survive and fund your venture. Final step is to stay consistent with the course, no matter the setbacks and hurdles along the way.

I've been thinking of going into the IT world. The thing, where I live, entry level positions are really hard to get. One person I spoke to said that ever since the 2008 recession, employers are now asking for a 4 year comp sci degree.

But then again, exp triumphs the degree, the thing is you need to get that first job.
