Keep this with you today

Goodness radiates.

Those who dislike goodness often feel as though that goodness is an affront to the way they live... Because it asks them to be more than what they are.

And if you do not answer the call, you will know deep in your heart that you did not do the right thing.

To ignore that goodness is to refuse the call to action that makes you a man. And deep within the hearts of many, there rests a great insecurity that says "I do not wish to be a man, so please do not show me what it means to be one. I do not wish to be more than what I am, so do not show me what I can be. I fear knowing that I cannot overcome myself."

Not everyone deserves "goodness"
It should be more of a personal gain for the user

I'd personally replace goodness with genuine (Ness).

At the end of the day I don't really have complete strangers on my mind and it's naive to think 7 billion people will feel differently.

Be genuine in your interactions and you will draw people to you. Nobody likes a false face, particularly when they've known you long enough to grasp your nature.

I feel very content with who I am and where I am at but have clear goals and I work towards them.

Because of this I LOVE helping and encouraging others on a daily basis. I love trying to add just a little something positive in their world. Misery likes company and I believe the opposite is true, so if I can be genuinely good and positive for someone, I’ll do it. Not at a cost to myself. Sure, I have down days but I try to positively spin things in my own life and that allows me to try to lift people up who May not always have that ability/mindset.

Obviously I’m not out there giving money away etc, but as simple as smiling at someone who may look down/in the dumps or returning a compliment with a compliment.

Just like SSM12 says, be “good” but do not put yourself at a disadvantage.
And being satisfied and happy with yourself is a major prerequisite.

Weird that you posted this because earlier today I just finished up a book on this subject(rejecting acedia/sloth and working to maximize your potential and enjoying yourself as you put in the effort). Snipped from the conclusion:

Glancing at our own society, we observe remarkable dynamism in trade, technology, transportation, entertainment - really incredible advances - but find inertia and tiredness in the domain of value. We seem to have no will for life, choosing sterile sex, rejecting(or deforming) marriage, dismembering nascent life in the womb, while endlessly seeking pleasant distractions - anything to keep us from facing honestly the truth of our being and its noble demands. Compared to the youthful effervescence of the saints, desire’s empire seems like a love of death, alternating between crazed attempts to prolong the baubles of our entertainments, whatever the expense of exploitation, or wearily sinking into despair, refusing to propagate our culture or bodies. We know not what we are for, or if we do we shrink from its weighty labor.

...

Instead the slothful hate the noble task God has given, wishing only for indolent lightness. I’m bored sloth our love grows cold, and we see nothing to cause delight , wantonly destroying ourselves and the good world in a pique of sadness. Many are tired now, their love affair with life diminished, spent by clawing efforts to remain weightless. Hatred, sadness, impotence - a terrible covenant. Sloth, like Judge Holden, wraps them in a horrible embrace, and they sink into death rather than reaching out for life. Still, for all that, there remains the dearest freshness deep down things; if only we love.

No homo.

Significant Christian lean, but even for people who aren’t Christian I think they can appreciate the wisdom and insight that was gained from Christian contemplation that lead to these concepts.

Solid post bro, as soon as I opened your thread my Playlist switched songs to Clayton Jennings. Wish we could all be good but someone has a plan. There are bad people for a reason, just don't fully understand why yet.

Very good post, as long as people who are good genuinely know the difference between being a good person or letting people taking advantage of you. As much as I dislike at the moment my ex, he told me something that will stick with me forever. ´Let people know your value before being good to them.´

Meaning, a lot of people assume that being good means you are weak and they can actually take advantage or you only know how to be good, so they will not respect your boundaries. I always present myself as very capable and smart woman who is also intimidating a lot of the times, but if you need my help and you deserve it, I may give it to you. The moment I give it to you, you will appreciate it, be respectful and grateful for it, instead of seeing me as a good woman that goes out her way to help you for no reason and who you can use later on for different tasks and take advantage of, because sure, I will not refuse you.

My mother has a heart of gold and she needed to give birth to me, a savage when annoyed, to learn to be good to herself first and then to others. Do not give up your comfort and go out of your way for all the people. Some deserve it, some not. Your energy is also a finite resource, be mindful to whom you give it to. Smiling sure, you can give it to whoever you want to, if you want to, but legit kindness and making and effort to someone should be mindful and evaluated.
