Almost everything significantly costs more now. Food, cars, energy, electronics, houses, healthcare, college, exercise equipment
Maybe clothes are the only thing that doesn't cost more

isn't it about a basket of goods? maybe other things are less expensive which is keeping the rate 'low'? prolly not dollar weighted as things like housing, education, and healthcare cost way more.

But now electronics, cars, and food cost a lot more so they can't pull that card

Don't forget the US has an incentive to report low inflation, as it affects social security payouts, TIPS (inflation protected bonds) etc
