When immortality?

It boggles my mind that the year is 2021 and we still don't even have effective ways to treat cancer and other serious diseases. "Modern" medicine moves at a snail's pace, because the FDA puts up 10000 hurdles for new drugs before they can come to market. Also, biology is really hard.

Yet some billionaires are talking about how they invested in the longevity/age rejuvenation space, like they expect to be immortal in a few years. How delusional can you be?

I think the billionaires that are just investing into longevity and rejuvenation without making life changes are kind of delusional. We have a pretty good idea of the substances that age us and cause disease.

But lets take someone like Jeff Bezos. Dude is clearly taking proactive steps to be healthy/increase his longevity. He'll be able to afford the best/most cutting edge medical treatments. Cost is no barrier to him to do organ transplants, stemcels, blood transfusions, etc. Bezos is someone that might legitimately live to be 125 years old or some schit like that.

Just put those billionaires in the farm life. THey'll live til 100s. There's a 80 y/o Chinese man that does muscle ups.

Immortality is probably not possible.

Unless we can figure out how to survive in space every living thing on this planet is totally boned in about ~1 billion years. The planet itself is totally boned in about ~4-5 billion years.

Just lol if you think they don’t know how to stop cancer in the year of our lord 2021.

Pretty sure they’re already brainstorming ways to get the population DOWN. Massively increasing people’s lifespans is not in the playbook.

We’ll probably figure out a way to upload our consciousness onto a computer at some point like the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror. Then just shoot those computers into space and it don’t matter what happens to earth.

Maybe - though not sure if being conscious inside a computer is really the same thing. But, this really just pushes back the deadline for the end of everything - maybe 10^106 years or so (maybe much much much longer), but still - no immortality.

Well it’s a hell of a lot better than ~70 years at least. Also if we could put ourselves in a computer maybe we could alter our perception of time so that 1 year would feel like 900 billion years? Still not eternity but man I bet people would be tired of existing after like 1000 years anyway. I mean how long until you’ve experienced everything that existence has to offer 100 times over?
