The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine is able to neutralize a rapidly spreading virus variant from Brazil, according to a new laboratory study.

Researchers developed an engineered version of the COVID-19 mutation and found that blood samples taken from people who received the vaccine were able to neutralize the variant, according to the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Monday.

The scientists from Pfizer, BioNTech, and the University of Texas Medical Branch said the vaccine was roughly as effective against the Brazilian variant as other less contagious virus versions from last year.

Earlier studies found that the UK and South Africa COVID-19 variants were also neutralized by the Pfizer vaccine.
But... but... the variant is more transmissible!!!!

That may be true, but studies are showing the vaccine is less effective against the new exotic Chilean/Peruvian strain.

The whole thing is a joke. Most of the world has limited capability to test for variants so you just get "variants" from areas where they are capable of testing or where another country capable of testing has tested on their behalf. There are lots of behavioural and circumstantial reasons why one variant becomes more prevalent than another without any increase in transmissibility or selectiveness... but they always attribute it to the variant being more transmissible. It's all just a giant mess.

There has not been any good quality data to suggest there is any difference in transmissibility or mortality rates of any variant. The whole thing is just a big ****ing joke. Sure keep testing away, why not, but the constantly media reporting and governments using this as excuses to tighten their grip further is just ridiculous.

well yes its not the flu. it doesnt mutate to something that different so quickly the vaccines wouldnt do anything.
