The defendant’s son was hospitalized Monday after detonating a homemade explosive he had brought to school. According to Newaygo County Prosecutor Ellsworth Stay, Saylor’s son lost parts of both of his thumbs in the explosion.

“For lack of a better word, his thumbs were blown off both hands,” Stay said.
