Is tool the most overrated ****ing band of all time?

Lateralus is a masterpiece and no one can say otherwise, aenima is also a damn good album too. But should a band be judged on 1 outstanding album, or the sum of all its parts?

Because if it's the latter, the rest of tools discography ranges from ok to tedious and pretentious filler from the outtakes of lateralus or aenima which didn't make the cut (I'm looking at you 10,000 days and fear inoculum)

Don't get me wrong, I like tool and lateralus is one of my favorite albums of all time. But the cult like worship of them as this band that is perfect, transcendent and couldn't possibly have any flaws makes me cringe so hard

I love Tool but mostly because of Lateralus. The album is absolutely unparalleled. Very culty following though.

I love Tool, but half their tracks aren't even songs. Like I don't know if you need acid or whatever to even listen to it, but their good songs are really good. I don't think they're overrated by anyone else than their hardcore cult fanbase.

10k is their best album ded srs
Although Lateralus is damn close. Two of the best albums ever.
Aenima is a great album, but not that good.
Undertow is a very good album.
Fear Inoculum is very forgettable. It's not bad, it might even be better than Undertow, but while Undertow is kind of the start of something great this one is decline.

Maybe it’s because I’m nostalgic with listening to Tool, or if it’s because I haven’t listened to their new stuff as much now as an adult. I don’t really know if their newer albums are bad or not.

I used to listen to their older albums all the time, and I tended to like those older albums over Lateralus. The older albums had a rougher, heavier, lyrically insightful, feel to them than Lateralus.

As an adult, I just rarely sit down and listen to an album, which is why I haven’t listened to 10,000 Days, or Fear Inoculum as much. I need to listen to an album like 2-3x to really get a feel of it. So I really need to do that before judging the latest works.

I like tool, but I do admit, I pass many of their songs when I'm on Sirius.

They aren't different than a lot of rock bands. They have a few super pop hits.

I never liked them tbh, the lead singers voice was underwhelming and not unique to me. I assume that is why it seems muted compared to the band, but they are uninspiring as well. But I’ve hated bands before and ended up loving them eventually, so what do I know. Tool and perfect circle never did it for me though
