Calling misc tradies: any carpenters or drywallers on here?

Any finish carpenters or drywall/plaster guys on here? What are the salary/hours like and how do you break into the field?

Not me but my sister's husband owns a drywall company. He makes bank but he also works probably 12+ hours a day. He's gotten ton of apartment contracts lately. New builds of like 400 units and such. Not sure how much he actually makes, but they have a house, tons of cars and boats. Always buying chit. I'd say he makes 10-20k/month.

Obviously that's not what a worker would make.

I've done it a few times and it's hard, dirty work that's really not worth most people's time. Unless you own the business you're not getting paid chit.

Carpentry is slightly better it seems like. Not as messy, and some projects take actual skill unless you're just doing framing chit.

Go union or you won't make any money.

youre gonna have to search for company's and go apply at their office. finish carpenters make more then drywaller. around here experienced drywallers only make bout mid teens. start off lower. finish carpenters high teens/low 20's.
