Isn't Sami a term for Finnic ethnic groups? The Sami people and the Finnish name for Finland? Must be like how the name Scott became popular in Scotland - it meant a Gaelic speaker in a Welsh (Welsh was once widely spoken in Scotland, weird right?) or English speaking town. I wonder if the name Sami is moree common in Finns who lived near Swedes?

I think it would be both girl and boy name, at least here in America.

In Finland, it would be only boy name. Like Kari or Kim in Finland are only boy names, there would be no girls with those names.
