day I've been dreading finally came - lost the pup
The Aussie Cattle Dog lost his battle to cancer. He was almost 17 years old, brought him home as a puppy in Oct 2004. It's sinking in just what a fixture he was and how long he's been around. Literally half my life. That's a long journey with lots of memories.
The last few months were rough with severe cognitive decline and accidents it the house. Really tested my patience toward the end which I'm feeling horrible about right now. Wish I would have spent more time with him. Not that I didn't, but I could have taken more time out of my day to just sit and pet him or go for little walks around the yard. You always think "I'll do that tomorrow" until tomorrow never comes.
The time was near to euthanize so passing at home was a huge relief. Had a large seizure while I was at work. Got home and he took his last breath as I was petting him. As if he was waiting for me then let himself go. I'm doing okay because it's for the best, just sucks bad because you can never fully prepare yourself even when you know it's coming.

There's nothing more that tugs on my heatstrings than threads and stories like these. RIP pupper.
