An actual exercise thread!
I am just wondering, are there any exercises out there where one can go really heavy on a squat and deadlift movement that do not involve a barbell?

You could deadlift about anything really... Vehicles, rocks, wooden platforms that you load up with weight, axels. Romanian dumbbell deadlifts if you have heavy enough dumbbells.
Squats, I really like belt squats. I can go heavy and go to REAL failure without risk of injury. Although I use my own belt because the belts at the gym fuk up my hips with bruising and rope burn... Usually use this as a finisher after a barbell squat workout but it works well on its own too.
Do you not have access to a gym?
