How can I quit my 9-5

I need another source of income to pay my bills

What are my options?

I'm overworked and underpaid

For this workload, I should be making atleast 1.5x what I am currently

I'm #12 in Y2J's "club"...and I'm scared.

This week on The Buff and the Beautiful: Colleen comes up with a new scheme to win over Carlos. But first she has to gain the trust of her captor.

Before long I was "working" 37 hours (contracted time), but really maybe 25ish of "real" work.
That's basically how my role would be except I'm too lazy to put in 60 hour weeks. I didn't know I'd be training myself/asking questions when I can, thats what sucks about it. I contracted in another role for this company and it was more laidback but this one it seems like people work 50-60 hours pretty regularly for the same pay I made when I did contract work with like 20-30 hours of actual worktime a week tops

That's good to think about though, I'm sure I will get much more efficient at it in time if I stay. Just figuring chit out on my own kinda sucks since they're piling a ton of work on me

I would complain less if they paid me more

If you want a srs answer and aren't up for getting your ******* pounded on camera, take literally every penny you can and throw it into stocks. Srs. Live off fking beans, rent a smaller place, do your research and you'll be able to retire in a few years.

You could teach English online. Though, you'll want to combine that with moving somewhere with a low cost of living.

Retire early, srs.

Someone already said it ITT, but get yourself into as cheap of a living situation as possible (live with family if need be), invest as much money as you possibly can, and then retire early. If you make $50k/yr, which is basically national average, and you invest all the take home pay, which would be like $40k a year, then you'll be set. $40k/yr invested with a 12% annual return from investments would turn into over $1.1 million by 12 years. And at that point, your investments would be making $100k+ a year by themselves just staying invested in the market.

That 100k+ is all on paper though tbf, unless you're selling the proceeds each year, which is a terrible idea.

Unless you invest it into solid dividend stocks, which again you should really reinvest, but you could withdraw and live on. A reliable 3-5% (which is up to $55kish with $1.1 mil invested) isn't unreasonable.

However, $55k now isn't $55k in 12 years and definitely isn't $55k in 30.

But you can beat the 12% return if you know what you're doing. 10% a month compounded isn't even that difficult if you're dealing with $10k chunks. It only gets really hard if you're throwing more than $100k at once in and even that's easy enough if you're picking solid long term options.

You can also move somewhere cheaper. $55k in Thailand is basically fking Roman emperor level.

Teaching English wouldn't be bad. Definitely wouldn't mind living somewhere cheaper for awhile if my QOL is higher

I am considering living in a cheaper situation while grinding. How are you investing to get 12% annual return?

TBH what I personally do isn't what you should do... but I put mine into single stocks that I think have a long prosperous future, and historically shows doubling in value over several years, even despite COVID lol.

What I think people should do with lower risk tolerance, and wanting 12%+, is to put it into mutual funds. S&P 500 has an average of roughly 8-9% return between 1950's and 2018, but depending on how you calculate it and the year ranges you use some people call it 10%-12% in more recent years (shorter time ranges). VTSAX is ~11%-12% in recent years too. Those are safer ones with more assured growth that's not far away from the 12% figure. There's aggressive growth ones that are more volatile but with far better performance usually.

I'd probably go the mutual fund route in that case. I thought about stocks but the markets too unpredictable IMO to be a day trader

you don't owe your company more than 40 hours/week. They dgaf about you and would get rid of you to cut down costs if they needed to.

I agree 100%

Also the fact it's high workload with relatively low pay and zero training where I'm at currently. It's pretty bad but it's paying my bills
