How is the nightlife in Charlotte?

i love north carolina and been planning to move there as i got some relatives and weather is warmer.

looked at raleigh, its nice and clean but it seemed little too boring for my taste

one thing i used to dig about nyc is nightlife...doesnt have to be nightclubby but nice bars, gastropubs, live bands, music concerts etc are something i enjoy once in a while.
Do restaurants & shops close early or are they open till late?

i am a big car racing guy so nascar is a big draw for me also btw.
